PHOENIX HERPETOLOGICALSOCIETYEDUCATION ANDVISITORS CENTERScottsdale, ArizonaDesigned as an addition to an existing Quonset metal hut as part of grant contest sponsored by a national pet store retailer, this proposed project is positioned to upgrade the simple storage aspect of the existing metal building onto a much needed education & visitors center. Located near the public entry point to this non-profit reptile/animal rescue facility, this remodeled structure would provide a gathering spot for the many visitors to this sanctuary and additional educational opportunities as well. A new large metal shed structure would provide a shaded area for the comfort of guests and allow clearstory windows to bring daylight into the interior of the dark Quonset hut. An artistic ‘tortoise’ trellis of welded metal rebar would soften the project with colorful desert vines and provide a signature architectural element as a focal point.
