Adobe Photoshop

By using photography and design skills, create a project that encompasses a consistent color scheme from the image with tasteful typography.

Use layers and adjustment layers to coordinate colors and designs.

I started with setting up my Ship and fabrics to photograph. Once I adjusted the levels, vibrancy, and selective color I was amazed how much the fabric I used around the ship looked the way it does in person.

Creating a new 8.5 x 11 inch document in Photoshop. I inserted my photo on top of it and started designing. I wanted a unique design element other than straight lines or circles. Wavy lines I thought would enhance a possible ocean. I also added a helm element in the text to play into the theme and repeat the circle shapes in the ship.

The text was tricky with the star light background. I tried dark on light, no box, and stayed with my original but brightened and enlarged.

Create a logo for a company/service/organization and establish a visual identity across documents.

Vector logo utilized on letterhead and business card using principles of alignment and typography.

I had an idea to do a spider web logo for my own portfolio work. I didn’t want it to have a old, dirty, or dark feel. So I went with a Spirograph type look which I first created on a mathematical website. So I could chose how many points (8).

In Illustrator I created my look with three different angled loops inside of each other to create a web.Once I had half the image done I was able to duplicate and flip it.

I created my letterhead and business card with vertical/horizontal layouts and swishes/overlays. Two different designs merged into this final version.

Design a brochure for a company.

Create a full-bleed folded brochure that contains cutout, a logo, and high-quality images.

First I contacted the association to make sure I could do some work for them. I took there mismatched logo’s a created them a full color logo with the inspiration of children’s blocks. I also made them a solid red and black outline logo all in Illustrator.

After sketching my idea to make sure I put the right information the right direction on each piece I opened InDesign and started to design my brochure. I wrote my body copy from material found Online on their facebook and website.

Sometimes finding appropriate images that correlate together is difficult. Pictures for child care that focus on the adults and not on the children are limited.

I then exported the brochure document as JPEGS and a PDF. Than went to the print shop and fought with front and back alignment but returned home with enough copies for all the board members.

The board loved the brochures and will be mass printing in the spring as well as having me design their website to correlate.

Design a magazine cover that showcases a self-portrait as well as articles about yourself.

Use the basic tools of InDesign to create a cover of a real or fictional magazine.

I went with the real business Success Magazine that I thought was unique and modest in comparison to most magazine with women on them.

I tried to pick topics that you might see in a business type magazine not necessarily my hobbies. I am building a website to offer services and show my work (The Webb Designs). I wanted a holiday feel to my December issue which lets me focus on my name “Chear”. I live and take care of those struggling with mental illness and could use an article that helps with balance. I focus a lot on the Plan of Happiness to find Joy and growth in my life.

First I had my husband take several photos. Next I sketched out on paper some possible layouts of the magazine cover. Then created a shape map in InDesign of one of my sketches. I opened the image in Photoshop and clean the edges around my hair. I also made a CD icon and cleaned up a bar-code.Next I put all the content into InDesign focusing on alignment and typography while matching the layout on most Success magazine.

Adobe Photoshop

Design a spiritual poster montage using the blend of images and type.

Blend two photographs to create visual flow throughout the piece using layer masks an filters.

I loved this quote and thought the rainbow colors in the piece would signify the promise Jesus made to not forget or fail each one of us.

I imported the pictures into Photoshop and worked on each individual cutting, cleaning, color adjusting, and than put them together.

I played with the layers and chose to use the darken filter on the hand to bring it closer to the baby image. I did debate using the multiply layer but in the end did not use it. I also added a small design into the hand to give it the appearance of a scar resembling Jesus’s.

I noticed that when I switched computers that even though they both have the same program updated at the same time.

Adobe Photoshop, HTML/CSS Filezilla/Notepad++

Design a website homepage using a grid. Code a custom web page with HTML and CSS.

Implement a working knowledge of HTML/CSS to emulate design principles. Design and upload Online to personal website.

I first sketched, design logos, prepared images, made a wire-frame, site plan, designed a 360 grid, and than proceeded to code and troubleshoot in HTML/CSS.

I decided on a color scheme when first designing the logo and had the hex values already notated. I did need to go back and resize all my images for web use. I validated the code and corrected errors.

Create an infographic that organizes data in a visually pleasing way.

Improve research skills and organize data using graphics and design.

I decided I would do it on Family History work since it has become even easier to do at home Online. Since some programs have launched the statistics on digital data is amazing.

I searched several websites that special in genealogy work as well as searched for firm statistics done in research journals.I also spoke with several family history patrons that currently provide assistance full time to those researching family lines.

Sketching graphics was key in decided how to take the Data and make it more visual. In Illustrator and started on the graphics first and than laid out all the information for the infographic.

Prezi, Adobe Photoshop

Create an instructional presentation using the Prezi software to demonstrate it’s features and capabilities.

Learn how to use Prezi and use it as a resource for giving presentations.

I chose to do a Prezi for a client I have been working on minor web design adjustments. I gathered/organized pictures and found what images I still needed to pull off my idea. I made a very rough sketch to make sure with my busy background I would still have white space and flow.

I opened up Photoshop and adjusted, cleaned, and compiled different images. I used my sketch as my basic foundation. I chose to just work with the typography in Prezi (less options) and save time than preparing everything in Photoshop and moving it.

Next I went into Prezi, and started fighting with alignment and refreshing/playing over and over till I could get things to look the way I wanted. I really didn’t want the little icon squares all over my background.

I added background music to make it more fun and set a tone.

For another class I had the opportunity to do another Prezi and jumped on it since I wanted more practice.
