While You Were Out

Well, it has been over a quarter of a century now and after some very serious thought I felt it was time to put my stories down on paper. Some people might call this sharing, I would rather call it friendly story telling. It began about forty years ago, unless you ask my mother (the day I was born). My creativity evolved from early paintings on the walls, with a tube of Desitin to years of art lessons. Graphic wall paintings helped offset college expenses. Guitar and voice lessons lead to the role of Anna Leonowens in my high school production of “The King and I.” After graduating Florida State University in Interior Design, I worked in the field while enjoying the wonderful privilege of teaching Interior Design (Ringling School of Art in Sarasota Florida) to other creative minds. Little did I know that all these years later I would be sitting here reminiscing about the thing I loved most, Homes. It didn’t matter if they were big, small, new or old. If you ask my mother she would tell you of the many new home construction sites she found me on after school. I would stand there in the middle of a slab of concrete and imagine the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. COLOR OF THE MONTH:

RED

Red while it is traditionally the “color of passion” also triggers many other thoughts and emotions depending on the shade or values added to the base color. Red is one of those amazing colors that can range on the side of deep red-orange to lipstick red, red browns, burgundy red to purple reds and red violet. Certain reds may evoke anger and agitation; some stimulate energy, while most reds say love, warmth and romance. When selected appropriately for an accent it will create drama, defining the space you are in.

ECO-FRIENDLY THOUGHT:

Flooring can be one of the most expensive investments you can make in your home. Today, we need to make sure that we take into consideration the beautiful environmentally friendly alternatives which include bamboo, reclaimed or sustainable harvested wood, cork and natural linoleum. Always try to use a non-toxic installation. You can either nail down the bamboo and wood or float the floor above a sub-floor to allow for climate changes. Should you elect to glue flooring down, please try to use non-toxic products and read the directions very carefully to make sure the adhesive works with the product you have chosen. This will prevent buckling.
