Recognized in 2004 by Guinness World Records as the largest green roof in the world, this green roof covers 454,000 square feet (~10.4 acres) atop Ford's new truck assembly plant. The green roof is a part of a comprehensive effort to revitalize the historic Ford Rouge Centre complex as a model for 21st Century sustainable manufacturing and is a significant component of a site-wide 600-acre storm water management system. Other design objectives include the establishment of habitat at roof level, reduction in ambient temperatures, and protection of the roof membrane. The roof is the key to Ford's visitor education program highlighting environmentally beneficial site and building strategies.

YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN

The 60-acre Hyundai KIA America Technical Centre,

located in Michigan, houses the company’s R&D staff in

80,000 sf of office along with 120,000 sf of lab space.

The labs include three chassis and six engine

dynamometer test cells with the associated support

spaces and equipment. Giffels provided complete A/E

services as well as environmental permitting, design and

documentation for all utility, building, instrumentation

and control systems. Giffels designed the site-wide fire

protection system that includes a 350,000 gallon storage

tank and fire pump house. Multiple underground fuel

storage tanks and the site wide distribution system

were provided for four different types of fuel.

Marietta, GA$11,785,400

The project’s scope of work entailed a 50,000-square-foot, highly-classified operation building that also included base building conference centers and a central energy plant. The facility features state-of-the-art security and fire supression systems. Employee security clearance and project confidentiality requirements were considered a high priority.

Unlike other themed resorts along the strip, the CityCenter is set to include multiple high-rise buildings with contemporary urban design. The project will also include $40 million (US) worth of modern sculptures and installations by world famous artists.

The conceptual master plan was designed by Ehrenkrantz Eckstut and Kuhn Architects, laying out the project with approximately 2,400 condominium and condo-hotel units and approximately 4,800 hotel rooms, distributed within several high-rise and mid-rise towers around The Crystals, a retail and entertainment district. It is designed to have all commodities for daily life, featuring a 4,000-room hotel and casino, two 400-room boutique hotels (The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, with 227 residential condo units, and the Harmon Hotel and Spa), a purely residential offering (Veer Towers), a condo-hotel (Vdara Condo-hotel) and a 500,000 sq ft (46,000 m2) retail and entertainment district which will house the first grocery store on the Strip. The multi-use project is being designed with green technologies to make it one of the world's largest environmentally sustainable urban communities. Plans include the use of reclaimed water, and an on-site power plant. MGM Mirage will pursue LEED certification for the project as outlined by the U.S. Green Building Council. Siemens is to design and build $100 million 9-megawatt central energy plant to help power and cool CityCenter.

With a total cost of approximately $11 billion,[2] CityCenter is the largest privately financed development in the United States. The original cost estimate was $4 billion, but it was pushed up by rising construction costs and design changes. CityCenter is expected to open with approximately 12,000 employees and is planned to open in phases beginning in December 2009.

CITY CENTERLAS VEGAS, NEVADA

In early stages known as the Lifestyle Hotel, The Harmon Hotel and Spa was designed by Lord Norman Foster & Partners as a non-gaming boutique hotel and will be operated by Andrew Sasson's The Light Group. Later named The Harmon Hotel, Spa & Residences, it was planned for an elliptical layout and is set to have a highly reflective exterior and located on the northeast corner of the project at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Harmon Avenue. The hotel's pool deck will be perched 100 ft (30 m) above the Strip. The tower was planned to have 400 hotel rooms and approximately 207 condominium residences from 800 sq ft (74 m2) to 2,900 sq ft (270 m2) on 49 floors. The design was by Norman Foster.[18][19][20]

TROY, MICHIGAN

This site is designed to help automotive engineers, designers and purchasing managers gather cutting-edge information about products, grades and processes unique to the automotive industry.

The Automotive Center conducts customer application research, test services and development projects. These projects are often carried out jointly with our customers and our Advanced Applications Technology staff in our Product Technology group. The projects cover a variety of areas in forming/stamping, advanced material characterization, structural analysis/test, advanced CAE applications, and technology developments

MILFORD, MICHIGAN

The High Feature Test Facility at the GM Milford Proving Ground involved new construction of two full-feature test chambers. The test chambers contain features such as altitude, temperature, humidity, wind speed and emission measurement for drivability testing. Additionally, the adjustable floor tracks and vehicle entry paths can accommodate a large range of vehicles for powertrain evaluations. Capable of simulating just about any driving condition, the chambers equip GM with a year-round, altitude capable, powertrain vehicle testing facility providing comprehensive testing data to Powertrain development engineers.

In addition to the test chambers, the project involved a building addition and associated test support areas, including thermal soak rooms, control rooms and test article preparation areas. The facility can transition between one climatic extreme of arctic temperature to another such as desert heat in a matter of a few hours. There are four static chambers (non-driving or soak) where stationary vehicles are climatically tested.

Capable of achieving temperatures between 40 degrees below zero to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity and altitudes from 700 feet below sea level to 12,500 feet, and simulating air speeds up to 100 miles per hour, the facility significantly accelerates powertrain vehicle development and enables notable cost reduction. The facility also provides full emissions measurement capability, meeting regional regulations in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

The nearly 200,000 square-foot facility, located near Toledo, Ohio, features advanced component and system engineering, along with housing testing and purchasing experts, to ensure Dana's customers successfully meet increasingly complex industry needs. In addition to supporting research and development activities across North America, the new center augments Dana's technical centers in the Asia-Pacific, South American, and European markets.

The center's research and development capabilities include total systems engineering, product prototyping services, three-dimensional computer modeling, drive train manufacturing and assembly support, and advanced computer simulations.

TOLEDO, OHIO

The Calkins Science Center opened Winter Semester 2000. It is located on Bostwick Avenue next to the Ford Fieldhouse on the Grand Rapids Community College Main Campus. This new building houses the Biological Sciences Department and the Physical Sciences Department. The latest in technology is included in the 150,000 square foot science center. The building is focused on students and is equipped with many spaces for students to study, relax, and meet.

What is the Oakwood CSO Project?

In response to a federal mandate, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) is replacing the existing Oakwood Pump Station and constructing a retention basin to eliminate untreated overflow into the Rouge River.

DWSD is making every effort to minimize impacts on the adjacent neighborhoods. The project layout incorporates berms and landscaping along the side adjacent to resident housing; odor control units; site entrance, electrical substation and working portions of the facility are located on the east side of the site as well as the entire facility moved as far east away from the resident houses as possible

DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Toyota Motor Company opened a truck manufacturing plant in Princeton in 1998 to build a new full-size pickup and SUV. Toyota significantly increased production at the plant in 2000.
