Our lives have changed significantly over the recent past. Our future, as we had assumed a few years ago, is approaching... and at a much faster pace. We can almost touch it.

Infact, in a way, it’s already here.

Well... atleast most of it is...The rest is also not too far-fetched anymore.

The times are changing.We are entering into a world that is highly dynamic, but still celebrates individuality ;

A world that loves fun and excitement ;

A world that encourages connectivity, with friends and strangers alike ;

A world that likes to share and promotes extensive collaborations ;

A world that embraces the lazy, with products which reduce cognitive load for everyone ;

A world that is just right to take a leap into the future that’s been waiting next door.

By experiences, I don’t mean just the moving images under a touch sensitive glass, but also Tactile, Tangible experiences. It’s a world where the sight is just not good enough. It wishes for more. It demands the feel as well,... the realistic feel. This is a world that has taken the term ‘virtual experiences’ too literally. And that’s what makes it so much fun. Isn’t it ?

A lot of credit for this goes to the extra-ordinary endeavours & breakthroughs in design and technology in the recent past.

The penetration of technology into our lives is phenominal.

And the good news is, that it is just the beginning.

There must be rules for survival that must be set at this stage for us, who are a part of this transition. We must be aware of the current flow, in order to think ahead of it. What follows below are the basic rules that help you understand the prevalent trends and some suggestions on how to get past them.“There aren’t any icons to click. It’s a chalk board.”

Love @ first siteThe introduction to the product itself should be captivating enough. Use appealing visual treatment. Weave a story around the product usage.

Innovate Let’s do the New. The trends are waiting to be broken...the sooner, the better. Being unpredictable is the only way forward.

Renovate [and do it often]

Provide a fresh experience well before the users get accustomed to the current one.

GamifyEngage your users. No matter what you’re offering in your product, make the users feel as if they were missing it for a while, and get them hooked on to it. Add incentives to tasks. Instead of creating users for your products, create loyal participants. Build a product eco-system that adapts & grows with people who use it.

LeverageThe wheel has been invented. Find one which fits your design, or else design around one. Collaborate with other products and exploit their potential. Combine them in creative proportions to create a wholesome experience never seen before.

Play without rulesSomeone said once, that rules are for fools. Forget all the rules that have ever been set (even the ones in this article). Break them, twist them, tweak them, smash them. Dare to learn the hard way.

Allow Access AnywhereGet your content ready to go anywhere, because it’s going to go Everywhere. The mediums are being explored. The boundaries of sizes are being redefined everyday. The high tech smart devices are no more limited to the geeks. It is an opportunity in the guise of a challenge.

Thanks !!!

P.S. : Keep waiting for my next post on ‘Gamification’.
