Broadcasting

• Broadcasting is the final process in the production stages and is where exhibition takes place. Some broadcasters that are popular for this particular genre of music are MTV Dance and YouTube. These are the two channels I hope to broadcast on because MTV Dance is aimed specifically at my target audience, so exhibiting my video on there would make sense. Also, YouTube is free to access to anyone who has internet connection which means it is widely accessible unlike MTV Dance which is a commercial broadcaster who is only viewed through subscription. Also, the ethos of MTV Dance states that they want to kill boring, which reflects our music, genre and video ideas as our genre and video is all about fun and having a good time!

MTV

The official statistics from the MTV site tells us that the majority of their audiences are in ABC1 which backs up my research and audience profile

It also tells me that the audience is a split between female and male which will help me understand when looking at broadcasting how to aim it at the audience correctly.

What is commissioning?

• Commissioning is the process of allowing a new product to enter the market by giving out the certain funds needed. In the case of a music video, it is most likely to be funded by the artist or the record label

Step 1

• Ideas are collected, meaning that the narrative and structure is planned and the music video will have a rough or detailed drawing out of what will happen in the video.

Step 2

• Finding an appropriate director, this is important to find someone who has experience in the production in music videos, which is hard because there isn’t much money for directors in making music videos, so they are likely to be more experienced in other things.

Step 3

• Agree the budget, this could be with the record label or setting your own as the artist. This is the final process in commissioning as it is then decided how much money is placed into the production of the music video and after that, production can begin.
