Cardboard Waste

Paper Mill

Collection

Recycled products such as toilet paper.

Cardboard and paper waste is

collected around site by the recycling centre team. This is then

bailed on site. The bailed waste is

collected by Parry and

Evans recycling company and taken away to the paper mill.

At the paper mill the paper and card is broken down and heated up in order to form pulp. This is then strained and bleached to remove and ink,

glue or other contaminants.

This can then be made into new paper products such as toilet

paper, recycled copier paper and

much more.

Food Leftovers

Collection

Anaerobic Digester

Fertiliser

Food leftovers

are collected from the canteen

areas and stored in a bin behind

the Recycling

centre.

This is then collected by Cartwrights who take it to Harper Adams Anaerobic

Digester plant.

At the anaerobic digester the food

waste is processed and digested by

enzymes.

This produces Biogas that is sent back to the grid as heat and electrical

energy and digestate

which is used as a fertiliser

on farms.

PET Bottles

Bailed and collected

Used PET bottles are collected

from around site and taken to the

Recycling Centre.

These are then bailed in the

Recycling centre and collected by

Emerald Trading.

Supplier

New recycled Toner Bottles

The PET bottles are returned to the

supplier where they are crushed down into

raw material.

This raw material can be used to make new PET

bottles and other plastic products.

Glass

Collection

Process

Products

Glass is collected on site and taken to the recycling centre.

This is then collected by Veolia who take it to a glass recycling

centre.

The glass is crushed up into fine pieces called

“cullet” that can be used as raw material.

This raw material can then be used

again to make new products.

Toner

Pyrolysis

Light and Heat energy

This is then collected by

Moock Environmental toner recyclers.

The toner goes through a

process called Pyrolysis

whereby it is subject to high pressures and

very high temperatures.

The result of Pyrolysis is the production on energy as light

and heat.

Waste toner and toner powder is collected on site in large bags and

stored in the recycling centre.

Haz Waste

Solvent recovery

Recycled Solvents

Hazardous waste such as

Aerosols, solvents and

toner contaminated

waste is collected on

site.

This goes through a process called solvent recovery where it is

purified and resold as a solvent or, for

solvents that can not be recovered, is made

into a thinner. The residue left over from this process is made

into a fuel that is used to fire cement kilns.

Recovered “pure” products are sold

back on to the market. This is then

collected by Hazardous waste

specialists, Chemtech or

Wastecare, who safely remove the waste from site to

a recovery facility.

WEEE

Ricoh Comet Circle

RPLWellingborough

WEEE waste such as

unsalvageable copiers, circuit

boards and broken

computers are collected on

site.

This is taken to the Ricoh factory in

Wellingborough where it is stripped down

into pieces.

This then enters the RPL comet circle whereby all products are recycled.

Page 9: Waste streams

Wood

Recycled Wood products

Raw materials

Broken wood and pallets are

collected on site.

This is then made into chippings which is effectively a raw

material.

The chippings can then be moulded into a new wood product

such as a pin board or desk.

Collection

This is then collected by

Veolia waste who take it away to

their own recycling centre.

Page 10: Waste streams

Soft Plastics

Plastic raw material

Granulator

Soft plastics are collected and bailed on

site in the recycling centre.

The plastic is put into large granulators

which cut the plastic in to very fine pieces.

The granulated plastic is now a raw material to make any new plastic product. The plastic is then

picked up from Ricoh by Emerald trading who take

it to their recycling centre.

Mixed Metal

Metal Foundry

Scrap metal merchants

New metal products

Mixed metal is collected on

site.

This is the collected by scrap metal merchants, Rollasons, who

sort it into metal types.

At the metal foundry the sorted

metal is melted down and moulded.

The moulded metal becomes new products.

Page 12: Waste streams

General waste

Incineration with Energy Recovery

Light and Heat energy

General waste is collected from

around site by the recycling centre

team.

During incineration the waste is burnt at

very high temperatures in order to release

energy.

This energy is put back on the grid

and used in homes and offices as heat

and light.

Collection

The general waste is then collected by

Veolia who transport it to the incinerator in

Wolverhampton.
