Research• The magazines I reviewed helped me pick out the layout and the design I

wanted, I was able to pick part the good features of the magazines including the fonts and the layout of the front cover, the research lacked in anything out of the norm as every gaming magazine has a generic vibe to it, so most of the overview was the same for each magazine. I could have more variety in the magazines I chose to analyse, as this would have broadened the horizons.

Planning• Planning the magazine; was mainly in the analysis of other magazines, the

layout of the magazine in terms of how the features of the magazines cover is very set to change dependant on the images and text used for the most part, the proposal allowed the moral and ethical standards of the magazine to be discussed and fix some of the dilemmas involved in creating a magazine, such as what content should or should not be featured when creating a magazine.

Time Management• The planning was well timed, the project itself took slightly longer as the

computers were very unusably slow, the production reflection however also took a fairly short time to do, so I finished to product with time to spare to work on reflection and the evaluation etc.

Target Audience Appeal• The target audience would have been achieve, as the magazine was

appealing to gamers between the ages of 18-25, the magazine showcased some of the most popular games played by this demographic such as fallout 4, counter strike, call of duty and battlefield. The magazine could also be appealing to younger people however the age restrictions of buying certain games doesn’t allow for leeway in terms of who the magazine can legally be sold to.

Technical Qualities

The professional magazine features almost the exact same layout except some of the entities on the front covers are different, such as the green on the left is in the same position more or less as my design, however it is in the wrong position on the magazine, the pro magazine also has the same kind of banner at the right hand side except my design is more defined, the game title is also in the same position with the same thing going on for the title of the magazine as the main characters head is clipping in front of the magazine, the price and barcode are in around the same place but on different sides, and the price of the magazine is at the top instead of the bottom, the pro magazine has some images of the xbox 360 next to the title as the magazine name is 360, I more or less did the same thing as a ‘frag’ in gaming is known as a kill and the crosshairs and bullet holes in the front of the magazine are an homage to that.

Aesthetic QualitiesAesthetic Qualities• The magazine contains design elements from

various different games, that inform the reader of what is inside the magazine.

• The cover has a fairly baiting caption that involves a competition guaranteed to make people want to read.

• The title of the magazine of a bold font used to feel like it is from a game environment.

• Below the magazine title is a custom shape, crosshair with bullet holes behind it to symbolize a kill or a ‘frag’ in gaming.

The magazine cover has several ‘text boxes’ consistent of shapes from the custom shape tool, used with lower opacity for the reader to be able to see the background of the image, the main focus of the image is the suit of power armor that is featured in fallout 4, the head of th3e suit is in front of the magazine title as to not hide the features of the face from the reader, as the magazine title is distinguishable even without the writing clearly in place.

The two page spread features text boxes filled with information about some of the most recent occurrences in gaming,It also has some pictures to highlight the features of some of the games in question, the top left shows the logo/name of the product being discussed.

One of the images used is of the model of power armor in fallout 4, I used the magic wand tool to hide the background as their was no need to feature it in the magazine and it now shows some of the background of the two page spread instead.

The ‘GAMING CONTENT’ badge at the right hand side of the page is to highlight the section in which this two page spread is featured.

Audience AppealThe magazine cover has references to some of the most popular games available at this current point in time, with some of the biggest player bases and sales of all time, so the target audience is a fairly large demographic. The two page spread features also some of the largest fanbases with content that is fairly unrecognisable from the average players perspective. The background of the two page spread will appeal to people who are interested in the game that is featured (cs:go), the badge on the cover is used to tell the reader what is inside the magazine. The age limit to most of the games in the magazine is 18, so the target audience has to be around about that age range, however the general consensus is that most of the people who play these games are under the age of 18.
