LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY – CHARLIE WAITELandscape photographer, Charlie Waite, took this photo. This photograph falls into the category of ‘landscape’. A landscape photograph usually shows vast spaces within the world, a typical landscape photograph captures the presence of nature. The purpose of this photograph is so that it can be sold as copies to the public and even to be shown in galleries for independent buyers. This photography uses the method of ‘rule of thirds’ as the sweet spots of the grid fall onto key parts of the photograph. Also this photograph shows themes of ‘leading lines’. This is suggested by the green path, which looks like it’s leading the viewer to the end of the photograph, which is the horizon line, where the top two sweet spots rest. This photograph may have been naturally lighted at first but may have been digitally edited. I think it may have been possible that this photograph was cropped due to it’s equal dimensions. There are contrasting colours of the bright green hills and grass and the dark stormy sky. The photo is composed so that as the scene goes further the more out of focus it gets, for example the clouds and horizon are not as in focus, as the grass nearest to the camera. Charlie Waite, also took the photograph below. This photograph uses themes of ‘leading lines’. The purpose of this photograph is for it to be sold. This is evident as the two lines lead the eyes to the middle of the photograph, giving the impression that there is more ahead than what is visible to the eye. The two leading lines are here. A wide aperture was used so that everything is in focus point so there isn’t really a focal point for the photograph. I think that the photograph may be cropped; this is because it has 400x400 dimensions. It is suggested by the brown leaves that this photo was taken in the autumn.

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY – MARIO TESTINOThis photograph taken by Mario Testino falls into the category of ‘portrait’. Typically, a portrait photograph is a photograph of a person or a group of people, which displays expression, personality and mood of the person or people. The purpose of this photograph was to be sold in mediums such as magazines, newspapers and even on the Internet. The lighting in this photograph looks like a use of natural light and a small light shining above her head, shining on her hair. This is because most of the light falls on her face but also the back of room looks light which suggest that room is lit with natural light. The photo is black and white to add to the classic look of the photograph. This photograph may have been cropped to centre on Emma Watson being the main focal point of the photograph. This photograph also taken by Mario Testino falls into the ‘portrait’ category. The purpose of this photograph is so that it can be sold to magazines, newspapers and on the Internet. The lighting coming from the window is natural. This is evident most of the natural light is shining on her face. The use of colours is natural nude colours, which in my opinion adds to the meaning of the photograph, as it is natural. Everything about the photo is natural, the lighting, and the off-guard laugh whilst the photograph was being taken. I also think that the meaning of this photograph shows happiness and the opening up of Angelina Jolie.

WAR PHOTOGRAPHY – MARCO DI LAURO

This photograph taken by Marco Do Lauro has a theme of ‘war’. A war photograph typically captures war and life in war-torn areas. Sometimes, war photographs can be manipulated which doesn’t make the photograph necessarily for journalism. The purpose of this photograph was to add to his portfolio but to also be sold to media sources such as magazines and newspaper, blogs and other sources of journalism etc. The lighting of this photograph is natural, this evident because of the beam of light shining through a window. Also the photo is in a horizontal position. The meaning of this photograph shows vulnerability of the people in it. It also shows what was happening at the time that the photograph was taken. The second photograph also, taken by Marco Di Lauro, falls into the category of ‘war’. The purpose of this photograph is to be sold to media sources and to be added to Di Lauro’s portfolio. I believe the lighting in this photograph was also natural. I think the colouring may have been altered on photograph. The meaning of the photograph is to show sadness of the fact families had to go to a school to identify their family members and how many victims were lying there in bags.
