Mentoring relationships can be among the most rewarding career-related interactions for both Mentor and Mentee, provided the relationships are treated with care, respect and commitment. Mentees obtain advice, feedback, and an expanded base of skills, knowledge, and networking opportunities. The Mentor-Mentee relationship is designed to foster maximum productivity and commitment to the institution through encouraging strong collegial relationships, training, support and recognition of small wins and achievement of major milestones and accomplishments.

1. Become self-aware: Mentees will evaluate themselves, developing awareness of their personal strengths and weaknesses, their skills, the contributions they make and their interpersonal relationships with others.

2. Become self-directing: Mentees will follow their own instincts and intuition to choose the direction they want to take.

3. Develop a sense of purpose: Mentees will be better able to understand their personal, business and family needs, their interests, their desires, and where they want to go in life.

4. Appreciate their own success: Mentees will be rewarded with valuable feedback from their Mentors. They will be able to celebrate the successes derived from their accomplishments as a team.

Why Having A Mentor Matters

Page 5: The Honor Foundation - Mentorship

Life changing experience that I will always be grateful for and can’t wait until I am in a position to do the same for others.

THF Alumni Weigh-in...

Critical to helping me understand my value and successfully compete in my work space.

My Mentor taught me the importance of nurturing relationships, so while I was excited to start anew, great emphasis was placed investing with those

I was saying goodbye to.

The Mentorship network granted me a variety of connections, an established network and a range of opportunities one would not seem

possible so soon during transition.

I now have the confidence to translate my military experiences into relevant skills and management principles within any industry.

I found that working with a Fellow has impacted me in two distinct ways: The first is that the energy and excitement I hear from the Fellows is contagious and inspirational. It drives me to find ways to be the most impactful I can and meet the high bar they deserve. It has also driven me to increase the number of mentees I support who are prior military in my own company. The second is the personal pride and satisfaction I have in being able to help great Americans. It’s a way to continue serving my country that I haven’t found in my civilian roles. I find that I am more proud to say that I am a Mentor for a THF Fellow than I am in telling people what I do for a living.
