•These state-level OSHAs carry out roughly 12,000 more inspections per year than the federal OSHA.

•However, the state OSHAs classify fewer violations as serious, meaning they impose an average fine of just over $960, while the federal agency's average fine exceeds $2,100.

•The above information comes from a Government Accountability Office report titled, "OSHA Can Better Respond to State-Run Programs Facing Challenges," a document that criticized the federal oversight of state OSHA programs.

•So far, only one state, Hawaii, may lose its OSHA. Recently, federal OSHA sent several staffers to assist Hawaii in restoring its program.
