By: Grace Rubin
History of the Maquette
The Maquette is the French term for “Scale Model” . It is sometimes referred to as Italian names like Plastico or Modello, which both mean scale model or rough draft. It began to use that name in the early twentieth century around 1905, in Italy.

How to Make a Maquette
• First of all, when making a Maquette, the person that is making it will need some sort of material to create the box. A light cardboard is often used as that material, because it is lightweight and easy to fold and cut.
• All that is left for them to do is to draw, or in some way, design the furniture, the doors and tables, anything that is in the room.
Why Maquettes are ImportantMaquettes are important because you need to use
them for reference, or just to look at to help you with
something. Maquettes are very easy to make, and
don’t have very many steps to it; just get your
cardboard or other material, and draw what
you want the room to look like.
Conclusion
Making a Maquette is really easy, and many famous architects and designers still use them today. Most box maquettes were used earlier, around 1900-1970, but some are still used. Many people wouldn’t know what a Maquette is or means until they see it. A Maquette is just a smaller version of the room you plan on creating. Interior design is how to make your rooms a masterpiece, but the Maquette is where it all starts.
