Inside the mind of a recruiter on LinkedIn
LinkedIn has become a valuable resource for recruiters when looking into candidates. To be at the top of their list follow these tips.
Location It is important to list your current location on your profile. An important search criteria for recruiters is location.
TitleMake sure you include your current or previous role and/or desired role in your title so you can be found when recruiters search using title variations.
IndustryStating which industry you are in is important when recruiters are looking for a candidate with specialized experience.
Summary If you tick the boxes of the sections above, a recruiter is likely to read your summary. If there are spelling mistakes, or if it’s too long or wordy or vague, recruiters will move onto the next person.
QualificationsSome recruiters are looking for specific degree-qualified candidates and some will be more attracted to the experience you’ve had since leaving University. Either way, it is important to list any qualifications clearly so the recruiter won’t miss them.
Make contact easyDon’t rely on InMails on LinkedIn as a way for the recruiter to contact you. Make it easy and at a minimum include an email address. IMPORTANT – check your junk mail, you don’t want to miss an email from the recruiter because your system thought it was spam.
Take a photo of your good side…your professional side that is. First rule – have a profile photo. Second rule – make it a professional photo. A head and shoulder shot is enough, wear a professional outfit, ensure your hair is tidy and of course – smile!
Access all areasRecruiters don’t have to connect with you to view your profile. So if you wouldn’t want a potential boss to see it, leave it off.
