HOW TO GET HIREDIN 7 STEPS

Your resume is a snapshot of your skills,

experience and professional objectives. It is important to keep it up to date. You should also highlight your most

relevant skills and experience.

NETWORK

When job searching, it isn’t necessarily all about “what you know”, "who you know" is just as important. Start by making sure your

business colleagues, family and friends know you are looking for a job and ask them for their help.

Alumni are a valuable source for potential job opportunities. They are also likely to help fellow alumni and form social networking

groups on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Join these groups and be active to increase your visibility.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Search social networking sites such as LinkedIn for contacts within relevant organisations. Make them aware of your interests

and career objectives. Many will be willing to help, and once again you have expanded your network.

COMPANIES OF INTEREST

PART TIME & VOLUNTEERING

Whilst searching for a job can be very time consuming, it is important to demonstrate you are active doing other things. Take a part-time job or volunteer. This is also a great way to meet new

people and expand your network.

Be realistic! Bare in mind that you might not find your dream job the first time. Don’t rule out other areas of occupation and

consider accepting a temporary job which will expand your level of experience and can lead to a full time position.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Be aware that the job hunt can be a long process. Set yourself goals, i.e. number of applications sent, phone calls and company searches. Once you have accomplished these goals, take some

time for yourself and set new goals for the next day.
