After the creation of the iconic and popular search engine that took the internet experience by storm, Google undoubtedly gained recognition as a multinational, publicly-traded organization. They were just that popular and impactful on the way the internet works, that the word ‘Google’ is an actual official verb in the Oxford English Dictionary, which also happens to be the most authoritative dictionary in the English Language, so its fair to say that’s quite the accomplishment. In simple terms, Google offers internet analytics, cloud computing, advertising technologies along with a web app, browser and operating system.

Its 1995 and Sergey Brin and Larry Page, two graduate students bump into each other at Stanford University and later in 1996, they are collaborating on a research project which was the birth of the spiral of thoughts that would eventually lead to the creation of the Google search engine. Back then, due to the analysis of back links, they initially named it BackRub, and this little birth of an idea exploded interest across the university research community, but unfortunately it didn’t immediately catch the eye of any major portal vendors. Nevertheless this was the early days off mass internet searching, and during their quest for a potential offer, their high hopes were tested by a CEO, who claimed that it doesn't matter about searching abilities, and that people won’t care about such a thing. Luckily they were undaunted from this statement, so kept scrounging and gathering as much possibly funding in order to get started – but where did they start exactly? As of September 1998, they established operations from an office in Menlo Park, California, an garage based office at that. Later that same year in December, they found their hard worked definitely paid off since Google found that PC Magazine listed it as one of its Top 100 Websites and Search Engines for 1998.But one question that must be pricking on your mind is why the name Google anyway? Well, the word googol (a number composed of a numeral one followed by a hundred zeroes) resembles a reference to the incredibly amount of information in the world, which is essentially what Brin and Larry had in mind, since their self-stated mission was “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”The battle was on thereafter against the likes of AltaVista, Yahoo, Excite and Lycos – clearly winning a few years after since the word Google itself became the verb to describe when someone is making a web search, as it was known for someone to have ‘Googled’ something when looking up on the internet. The headquarters of this internet ruling search engine is now in Mountainview, California. But this is only one way to describe this search engines history.

Finances So Google makes a lot of money - But how much?

Google made $58.8 Billion in revenues back in 2013. Then, with their goal to beat $60

Billion, they managed to already make $15.4 Billion in the beginning of the year.

So, Google is certainly good at making money, so with this in mind how much is

Google actually worth?Just under the most valuable company,

Apple ($605 billion) Google is soaring on a worth of $527 billion.

We know the produce products people want to buy, since they hold an average

25% real growth rate annually.

They are still raising their gross profit margin searching for its optimum level. So this backs up why Google definitely

has a great pricing policy.

Media Platforms

YouTube, Android, Gmail, google maps, AdSense, google photos,

blogger, earth, google+, AdWords…etc

Google is very much a master of the web and have created a ‘perfect search engine’ that gave the company a chance to add on to their mastery with products to elevate the Google experience that much more. As stated, they produce products surrounding chrome and android, with little media apps and platforms to organise everything neatly for easy use.Android phones are hooked up to these features.

Notable successes?Right off the bat, Google searching is such a huge success, its not even thought of as a search engine of choice for many people, but a matter of fact the way you search on the internet, or should I say, you don’t search on the internet, you’re “googling” something. They have improved this experience with choices appearing before you finish typing and voice activation. Their chosen smartphone, Android and rocketed to the close top of the market, as a fierce rival for Apple –people used to doubt Android’s success too

‘Cookiegate’ Scandal

After the 2011 and 2012 allegations from 37 states and the District of Columbia were made claiming Google placed unauthorized tracking ‘cookies’ on Web browsers, Google has finally settled these claims by paying $17 million, but also the combined $22.5 million paid because of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settlement, bringing the company a loss of $40 million in order to resolve ‘Cookiegate’.Wall Street Journal, at first, reported that whilst Google was trying to make its +1 buttons work on iOS, they, along with other ad networks, bypassed the mobile Safari browser’s default “no third party cookies” settings.“We used known Safarai functionality to provide features that signed-in Google users has enabled. It’s important to stress that these advertising cookies do not collect information” stated Google in early 2012. Luckily the matter is out of our hair, but this doesn’t mean future privacy scandals, investigations and fines are gone from the internet itself since this sort of issue it not solely limited to Google. Although this episode has become swept under the rug for Googles history, you can’t help but wonder if over time these settlements are taking its toll on the companies brand and image but this thought may be arising because of the publics cynical reaction – after all when internet companies say they “take privacy seriously”, how are we supposed to accept such statements after this scandal took place.

When it comes to international trade barrier, there’s a list of “lucrative and attractive businesses” from big conglomerates, and the small and mediums enterprises market haven’t been able to infiltrate international markets because of proper infrastructure and resources, such as e-commerce. There’s a massive lack of communication about various products and services going out to communities, limiting the products success. So if you image people like farmers being about to sell their services at a reasonable price instead of undercutting their prices, that could increase the standard of living for sure.

Therefore, Google’s possible future plan of ‘Project Loon’ tackles remote areas in need of internet access – by connecting a large network of high-altitude balloons and launching them on the Earth’s stratosphere. They can travel up to speeds of 20KM and will be guided by capable software algorithms along with the Earth’s wind to create a network to bounce signals to the antenna below and back – the antenna belonging to the consumer.
