EVALUATION FOR THROUGH MY EYES

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

CAMERA SKILLS

Since the preliminary task I believe I have come a long way due to learning many camera angles and how to apply them to my own production to maximise narrative effect as the camera is the eyes of the audience. I have learnt how to effectively use and film from numerous angles and positions and use different effects such as focusing on a single item to show importance and make certain images clearer while also learning how to set up and prepare the camera very quickly to make better use of the amount of time I have to film scenes.

STORYTELLING SKILLS• Since the preliminary task I have learnt many ways in which I can tell a

story and not just use a linear path (nonlinear narrative) and characters. I have learnt how to use methods such as In media res to start the film right in the middle of the action (which I have done for Through My Eyes). • I have also learnt how to better structure my storyboards to be

prepared when filming and to make sure the film’s plot does not just ‘go with the flow’ but is written and prepared.

EDITING SKILLS

• Since the preliminary task, as you may have seen in comparison, my editing skills have become much better and I am much more comfortable in using the programs I do for editing. This confidence in my own editing skills allows me to create much better productions by knowing what to do and how to do it straight off the bat.• When it comes to creating covers or some sort of work for a production this

makes it easier too as I am also now confident in Photoshop.• Knowing what I can and can’t do, plus having a working knowledge of multiple

aediting software platforms also allows me to know if I can or can’t do something when I am planning for filming which will eventually lead to editing. This occurred in the preliminary task when I tried to do a split screen but it backfired.

TIMING SKILLS• Since the preliminary I have learned to better organize myself in order

to make sure everything gets rolled out when it is ready and allows me to also have more time on my hands rather than having my entire day taken up by one subject, this is very useful as it helps me produce better quality films and also allows me to get on with my other AS subjects, it is also an important life skill that Media has helped teach.• Also, as I suffered a rugby related injury to my shoulder at the end of

January I was unable to do any work whatsoever for a very long time (2 and a half months) but, due to having good timing, everything had more or less already been finished and so all that was left were finishing touches.

SKILLS WITH I.T• As my internal HDD/ Hard Drive Disk was corrupted all of the raw

video and audio was unfortunately lost from my production. However since the preliminary task I have developed in my I.T skills and so was able to replace my HDD and also get straight back to working on my project.
