TromboneThe camera angle which is shown here is a trombone shot. This is where the camera moves forwards whilst adjusting the zoom angle to keep the subject the same size in the frame. This shot creates an unnatural effect, as it is something your eyes will not normally see. This makes the background seem to grow and become dominant. This effect is quite emotional and is often used to convey sudden realisation and reaction to a dramatic event. In this context, the death of Sarah's daughter. This shot also emphasizes Sarah’s fear of the darkness in the corridor.

Close-UpThe shot which is present here is a close-up. This is where a photograph or film image is taken at close range and is showing the subject on a large scale and is focused on the subjects face. The effect that this has is that it shows the subjects emotion and expression on the subjects. In this context, it shows the fear of the darkness in Sarah’s eyes. Also, a close up of a face is a very intimate shot. Furthermore, this shot shows the state of confusion and panic she is in following the car crash.

Medium-ShotThe camera angle which is present here is a medium-shot. It shows the key character of the scene from a short distance and the camera does not move. The main idea of this shot is to show the main character or object in the scene and idolize the importance of it to the viewing audience.

Here the shot is used to show Sarah’s daughter who is most important to her and her daughters 5th birthday and highlights the importance of Sarah’s daughter. This is also used as an indication that Sarah’s daughter has died in the car crash, this also shows the significance of the effect that the death of her daughter is going to play on her in the film.
