If you're just entering the field, here is a quick refresher on WTF all these acronyms mean. Cost per Acquisition Cost per Click How much it costs to acquire a new customer. Calculated by taking the total cost of a marketing eort and dividing by the number of acquisitions. How much you are paying for each click in a pay-per-click (see PPC) marketing account. Cost per Thousand Customer Relationship Management How much it costs for an ad to reach a thousand people. (The "M" in CPM stands for "mille," which is Latin for one thousand). A model (typically a system or database) for managing a company's interactions with current and future customers. Call to Action A combination of graphics and/or text meant to grab a customer's attention and entice them to act in a certain way (e.g. "Shop Now"). A way of measuring the success of an online advertising campaign.Calculated by dividing the total number of clicks on an ad by the number of impressions it received. Click Through Rate Estimated Time of Arrival When a product is expected to arrive. A metric (or combination of metrics) that serves as a primary indicator of a marketing eorts overall success. Key Performance Indicator Pay Per Click A form of online advertising where the advertiser pays only when users click on their ads. How much revenue is generated for each dollar spent on an ad. Return on Ad Spend Return on Investment How much money a given investment has earned. A software model where users access a program or service through the cloud. Search Engine Optimization Stock Keeping Unit A unique identifier that refers to a distinct product or service. A statement of the value that your product or service provides a customer, i.e. what sets you apart from your competition. Unique Value Proposition Year over Year A way of comparing metrics for a one year period by examining them in relation to an identical period from the previous year.
