1. Building the Foundations

Firstly, we needed to be clear what outcomes we wanted from our mentoring programme. We wanted to develop a programme which would ultimately deliver increased revenue and profits for companies. We knew this would be done by helping employees feel more engaged in their work, and take more ownership and responsibility for their companyʼs customers.

We therefore needed to make sure that the content, structure and thinking behind our mentoring programme was spot on.

The best way we found to do that was to meet with, interview and understand the thinking of ultra successful business leaders — the type of people who have started, built and run many profitable businesses — and the type of people who knew how to build profitable teams and get the best

from their employees.

The people we met included Duncan Bannatyne and Simon Woodroffe from Dragons' Den, Sir Tom Hunter — Scotland's richest entrepreneur, Lord Bilimoria, the founder of Cobra Beer and Lord Harris the founder of CarpetRight, to name but a few.

These business leaders know a thing or two about creating engaged and profitable teams who

We are often asked what steps we took to build and develop Enterprise MENTOR.

In this short report, weʼll share our approach with you, and reveal some of the key lessons we learnt along the way.

If youʼd like to know how we created Enterprise MENTOR, then this report is for you.

make customers want to repeat buy and refer. We wanted to get into their minds, and find out exactly how they think and act, so we could help your teams think and act the same way too.

Getting the time of over 50 super successful, but super busy business leaders wasnʼt easy, it was time consuming and expensive — but it was worth persevering with to make sure that Enterprise MENTOR was built on the right foundations.

2. Identifying Core Messages

Once weʼd interviewed the business leaders, we needed to identify the core messages they spoke about, and find a way to present these messages to employees.

This was a lengthy and complicated process. It took us over nine months to turn their ideas into a meaningful structure to get a new way of thinking into employees and managers.

There may have been a quicker way to do this, but we didn't find any shortcut to take the ideas of business leaders and turn them into something powerful which changes employee behaviour (and ultimately delivers profitable results for companies like yours). But we are proud of what we created and the results it delivers, and are confident it was worth taking the time.

3. Building The Programme

Once we had the new content and structure for our mentoring programme, we needed to turn it into something which engages employees, and keeps them wanting to learn more.

We found that the spoken-word audio format is best for that, so we commissioned a handful of voiceover artists to turn our written ideas into a powerful, engaging and addictive ʻspoken-wordʼ audio programme.

Again, finding the right talent wasnʼt easy — and was time consuming and expensive. But it was worth sticking out for the right artists.

Once we had the new voice recording, we needed to edit the voices and put them all together to create the individual audio mentoring sessions. We found that 20 sessions, each around 15 minutes in length worked well.

We used a powerful high spec Mac computer for this and some fancy editing software. We used the industry standard Protools for editing. Not cheap, but the best.

We also needed to get Enterprise MENTOR 'professionally mastered'. This was the finishing process which made sure it was polished and ultra engaging.

We wanted to make sure the mentoring programme was ʻaddictive' so employees would want to keep listening to it and learning more. We know that the more engaged employees are when learning from the mentoring sessions, the more they'll be able

to deliver a higher level of service for customers (and the more their passion will manifest into happy repeat and referral customers and higher levels of revenues and profits).

4. Developing a Workbook

We also wanted to create a workbook to bring the learning from the audio mentoring programme alive in a written format.

We went for 218 pages and packed them full with more examples, exercises and summaries. We can't understate the importance of creating a workbook to connect the audio mentoring sessions back to the employees business. Creating the workbook took time, but like all good things it was worth it when finished.

When creating this workbook, we constantly kept in mind our goal of wanting to drive more revenue and profit growth for our clients.

5. Testing The Programme

Once weʼd got the basics of our mentoring programme created, we needed to test it — and make sure companies (like you) got the results they wanted from it.

We did, and to tell the truth, we actually discovered something very important. Which is this... as good as our mentoring programme is, we know it won't achieve the results you want unless you (as a company) build in some management processes around it.

Just giving your employees Enterprise MENTOR won't deliver the new revenue results you want.

But if you make your line-managers responsible for taking your team through the mentoring programme (we've uncovered some really useful and powerful approaches to make this work) you'll transform your business forever, and you'll see a dramatic shift in the level of innovation, creativity and customer focus coming from your team. You'll also see higher levels of revenue come from more repeat and referral customers.

6. Making it Better Still!

We think there is always an opportunity to make things even better, and we are continually on the look-out for ways to make it easier and even more engaging for employees to learn and develop.

Enterprise MENTOR has always been delivered in a mobile format (using MP3 players, mobile phones, CDs, etc)

There is something that comes with the flexibility of mobile learning, which means employees can learn at a time and place which suits them. This really breaks down any barriers to learning and removes all obstacles which come with other traditional learning formats. In fact, you'd be surprised by the number of people who prefer to learn whilst laid in bed (rather than sitting at a desk at work).

We saw an opportunity to make Enterprise MENTOR even more engaging, and give it an even

bigger WOW factor by turning it into an iPhone App. We know the better the experience for your employees, the easier it is for them to absorb the ideas, principles and new approaches taught in the mentoring programme — and the more significant the results you will achieve in your business.

But creating an iPhone App is not easy either — and it costs a fair bit of money too, but it has been worth it, and offers another experience for employees — and can lead to higher results for you.

Developing Enterprise MENTOR

We are often asked what it cost to create Enterprise MENTOR and how long it took. Realistically, it cost about £160,000 and took just over a year to develop, test and refine.

If you were ever to consider building your own similar mentoring programme to use in your company, you should have this level of investment and timeframe in mind.

Even at this level of investment, what you should expect to see in terms of:

• more engaged employees,

• higher levels of innovation,

• increased repeat and referral customers,

• increases in revenue and profit...

...it will still be a very worthwhile and profitable investment in your team and company.

Alternatively, you can speak to us, and introduce our proven Enterprise MENTOR programme to your entire team from just £999 (or your entire company from just £4,999).

This means that from this point forward, every employee in your team (or company) can have access to a world class mentoring experience, and more importantly, you can start seeing their new way of thinking transfer though to significant growth in revenue and profits.
