THE POWER OF V-TOON

Revolutionary Pontoon Boats

Page 2: The Power of V-Toon

Since the invention of pontoon boats in the 1950’s there hasn’t been many radical

changes to the design.

A layman would think that all pontoon boats are created equal – they would be

wrong.

We are going to explore the differences between traditional pontoons and

pontoons utilizing V-Toon technology.

Page 3: The Power of V-Toon

WHAT IS A PONTOON?

Let’s start off with the basics.

Pontoon boats rely on buoyant flotation devices under its structure to stay afloat.

A pontoon can be either a catamaran, which has two pontoons, or a trimaran,

which has three.

Page 4: The Power of V-Toon

Adding an additional tube to the middle of a boat improves how the boat sits on the water.

The third tube allows a pontoon to float better and it makes the boat much more stable.

The third tube does elevate the pontoon boat’s design, so to speak, but this addition doesn’t enhance the pontoon’s performance or handling.

THREE > TWO

CONVENTIONAL DESIGN

Most pontoon companies keep all three of their tubes on the same plane.

These flat bottom pontoons vary in design, some have a larger center tube, and some add strakes - these variances in design help the competition with banking at slow speeds, but they don’t handle well at planing speeds.

Other designs have gone as far as adding reverse chines or negative lifting strakes, but these changes don’t allow for a smooth, comfortable ride.

The magic of V-toon lies in the center tube.

The experts at Manitou didn’t just bolt a third tube to the bottom of a pontoon; they studied the way boats behave in the water.

After their exhaustive research on banking, heeling, deadrise, dynamic lift, and planing – they designed and engineered a pontoon boat with a center tube exactly 5.25 inches lower than their outer tubes.

V-TOON TECHNOLOGY

Traditional boats are pros at banking and

heeling while being able to react well at high

speeds.

These boats have a V shaped hull, which helps

the boat move in the water.

The angle at which a hull deflects energy

produced by waves and wakes is called deadrise

– this factor plus water displacement is what

gives V-hull boats that distinct feeling.

And V-Toon pontoon boats have the precise

angle for optimal deadrise and water

displacement on all three of their tubes.

Manitou has placed positive angle lifting strakes to lift the boat to the point of surface planing, which allows a smooth ride while also being nimble at top speeds.

Their flat bottom competitors add negative lifting strakes, which will help the boat plane, but will also burden its passengers with a very bumpy ride.

LIFTING STRAKES

In the boating world, the convention has always been: get a pontoon if you want comfort and a smooth ride; get a traditional boat if you want speed and agility.

That is clearly not the case anymore.

Patented V-Toon Technology has changed the boating industry forever – a fast ride that is also smooth and safe is truly the best of both worlds.

A Winning Design
