Introductions
Hi, I’m Dr. Phill. Welcome to Technical Writing. I’m going to briefly introduce myself. Then it’ll be your turn!
Your Turn…
Please pair off, choosing a partner who is someone you don’t already know. You’re going to interview and introduce that person. Make sure you get the following information:
1) The person’s name2) What they go by, if they don’t go by their first name3) Their major/year4) Something interesting to help us remember them
The syllabus
You can find all the syllabus and course information at the course website:

Setting things up…
You will need a Tumblr and a Google+ account for class. I will walk you through the process of setting those things up now.
Alt+tab time
Tumblr
Once you’ve created your tumblr, Email your URL to [email protected]
Starting out…
One of the things that is important as you begin considering technical writing is to think about how tech writing is different from much of the writing you’ve done in your previous classes.
To that end, we’re going to do what you should do each time you start to contemplate a new topic: we’re going to define technical writing.
Go to your Tumblr
For your first post, I want you to define technical writing in your own words, then write (as much as you can in the time I give you) what you already know (or think you know) about technical communication.
There are no wrong answers, so just write.
Homework
For next class, we have two things to accomplish:1.Read chapter 1 of Anderson and the Resume/cover letter assignment on the course websiteIn class on Wednesday we’ll talk about the first major assignment and look for some job ads.
