Understanding How Teams Develop
• Feeling of uncertainty • Polite, careful, reserved, quite • Excited, high expectations, eager,
some anxiety
Team Member’s Behavior/Feelings: Leaders can help by:
• Clearly defining team purpose and overall goals
• Providing lots of information • Helping people learn about each
other • Providing specific directions • Assigning tasks • Introducing and establishing initial
roles • Encouraging exposure to reveal
feelings of uncertainty • Providing feedback on task
accomplishment

• Feeling they could do more as an individual than as a team
