Small Wind Turbine Market in India
Prospects and Potentials
Facts about Wind Energy in India
• India ranks fourth amongst the wind-energy-producing countries of the world
after Germany, Spain and USA.
• Estimated potential is around 45000 MW at 50 m above ground level.
• Wind-farms have been installed in more than 9 States.
• More than 95% of installed capacity belongs to Private Sector in seven states.
• The Central Ministry and several State Nodal Agencies encourage growth of
Wind Energy Sector through financial incentives and policy support.
• Financial assistance for Renewable source of energy is available through
Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, a supporting arm of MNRE,
GOI.

35,608MW still untapped potential
Financial Benefits
80% Depreciation in the first year. Operation and maintenance costs are low. Zero input fuel cost. Pay back in shorter duration. Cost of generation is almost zero after pay back period. Zero import duty on certain parts. Tax holidays for newer power projects for 5 years. Wheeling to SEB is easy, so no marketing problems.

AXIS - Vertical
Omni directionalNo yawing requiredDrive train at ground levelBlades without twist or taperSupport at both ends, so lower stresses
Guyed configuration has limitation in height; not self starting, motor starting.
Direction
UPWIND DOWNWIND
Give Lower Noise / Turbulence. No Tower Shadow on Blades, Thus Avoid Fatigue Loads on Blades.
Naturally Yaws in the Wind Direction. Avoids Complicated and Costly Active Yaw.
Blades
TWO THREE
Cheaper, lighter, operates at high speeds leading to transmission costs, easier to install.Higher speed sop greater loading, thus more noise.
Less cyclical load, dynamic or gyroscopic imbalance of 2 bladed WTGs with change in wind direction.
