Evidence of Short Film Editing

Page 2: Powerpointformedia1

First I created a new project in Adobe Premier pro as this is the software I will be using to edit the footage gathered.

• Next I selected my sequence presets. I selected digital SLR because we filmed on a digital SLR camera. Then I selected the 1080p folder and selected DSLR 1080p 24. This means that the video shown in premier will be high quality. I also selected this format because it works well with the SLR we were using and the video it produces. This function also means that the video runs at 24 fps meaning that it gives us the look we want and is neither to sharp and aggressive with movement nor to undefined and blurry.

Next I selected the area where I wished the premier file to save its elements. I selected the video, audio, video previews and audio previews to the same file location; s:/My Documents\Adobe\Premier Pro\5.5 this avoids any issues with missing audio etc. when I come to reopen the file.

• Next I dragged all of the video files from My Documents -Media-Year 13-Short Film into the premier files storyboard space. I then began to rename each shot correlating to what they where listed as on the shot list. I did this because then later on I could easily order each clip so that my footage when moved into the timeline is not muddled.

Then next step was to check all the footage before moving into to the timeline for editing. I watched the clips through to check that they correlated to the shot list. This was done to avoid later complications e.g. unordered footage.

Next I entered the animate to sequence settings so that they where as I wished before I moved the footage to the timeline. I removed the ‘Apply Default audio and video Transitions ‘ setting so that I could put in my own transitions between footage if I wanted to. The ordering stayed on the ‘Selection ordered ‘setting so that the footage stays in the order I put it in.

I then placed all the footage in order into the timeline and rendered it. This means that I have a long render so when I take footage out for the process of cutting down and editing then the video still plays smoothly and does not stutter. If however I did not render it at all or did a short render then the video would stutter or I would not be able to make any changes to it without it becoming stuttering.
