Perk Up Your Donor Thank You Letter
With This Clever Tip
You worked hard on the appeal. You poured your soul into the story.
And….
You got a gift! Yay!
Think you’re done?
Not quite.
It’s time to get a connecting, engaging Thank You Letter out the door.
Your Thank You letter should be warm and sincere, and make the donor feel really good about her decision to give.
(You can’t just slap some paragraphs on a page and call it done.)
If you struggle to write a letter that’s warm and engaging, try this exercise.
The Kitchen Table Exercise
Imagine your donor sitting across your kitchen table from you. You’re having a cup of coffee talking about the lives your nonprofit changes when she hands you a check.
What would you say?
Write THAT down.
THAT’S what needs to go in your letter, not a bunch of big words and complex sentences.
Your letters will be much more personable and connecting if you write like you talk.
