We believe in “Doing the right thing and doing the things right” and it is this thought process that drives our business performance and our contribution to the society we live in. A special focus in the last one year has been on the health and safety aspects of our building occupants – Clients, Employees, Visitors etc and we have taken a lot of initiatives, that are evident in the course of this report, that benefit the occupant health and productivity. We believe that sharing our progress, our way of doing our business, any impacts that our business would have on the environment, society, community etc, leads to corporate governance and transparency. We strive to encapsulate this in our report – How we are meeting the challenges thrown by Climate Change?

Paharpur Business Centre & Software Technology Incubator Park is a participant to the United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary corporate citizenship initiative, and supports and advances its ten principles within its sphere of influence. The principles of UN Global Compact address Human Rights, Labour Rights, and Environment & Anti-Corruption. At PBC™-STIP we strive to address all the ten United Nations Global Compact principles and it is our constant endeavour to internalize them into our day-to-day business. We are very firmly and deeply committed to the spirit of United Nation’s Global Compact.

During the year 2009-10, PBC™-STIP’s commitment to UNGC’s ten principles were addressed

through:

HUMAN RIGHTS 1. Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights – We believe that business has an important role to play in promoting and respecting the advancement of fundamental human rights, while not supplanting the primary obligations of governments to protect the human rights of all people within their borders and as members of the international community. Supporting human rights is not only the right thing to do, but also makes business sense—companies that violate internationally recognized human rights are not sustainable. We also recognize the value of promoting human rights in the broader global community: societies where human rights are respected are both more stable and provide a better environment for business.

A positive working environment is essential to allow our employees to achieve their potential. It helps attract new employees to PBC and motivates them to stay. Components of our working environment include numerous opportunities for employee development and professional growth, competitive compensation and benefits, our focus on health and safety, and our approach to diversity and inclusion. Our Human Rights Statement, through the SA 8000:2008 policy, articulates our values and informs how we conduct our business. Guided by our values, we support universal human rights for our employees and in the communities where we operate. PBC™-STIP believes companies can play a positive role in contributing to safeguard human rights, their protection and promotion. Our principles prohibit child labor, forced labor and discriminatory behavior as well as recognize the right to freedom of association and collective bargaining. We prefer business partners, who treat their employees similarly. In 2009-10, we continued to inform and educate our employees about our commitment to human rights. The trainings help our employees understand principles of human rights and how human rights can be supported through PBC™-STIP’s role in society. Trainings on Environmental hazards, Fire Safety measures, HIV-AIDS awareness, Social Accountability awareness programme for vendors & employees, etc was also imparted. Benefits for the PBC Team Members: More choice, flexibility and time Green Travel/Sustainable Commuter management offers flexible working hours (30 minutes flexi timing to sign in the Office) to meet a range of individual staff circumstances and requirements, offering staff greater flexibility in their working day, while meeting organization’s performance targets. Reduced commuting costs The costs of commuting can be considerable, and facilitating alternatives can bring direct savings to employees. Reduced stress Makes it easier, cheaper, quicker and safer for staff to commute to work can assist in reducing stress. Walking and cycling offers other health benefits too. Improved working environment Developing a Green Travel/Sustainable Commuter management plan involves communication, consultation and facilitation of flexibility and choice. Both the communication processes and the facilitation of choice can enhance the overall working environment. Conducting Staff Travel Survey The purpose of the survey is to quantify current travel patterns, including modal split and typical journey lengths and times. These benchmark figures are vital for measuring changes in staff travel patterns.

Positive changes identified through future repeat surveys are likely to be an important element in judging the success of a Green Travel/ Sustainable Commuter management plan. Green Travel/ Sustainable Commuter management plans have a wide range of possible measures to choose from. These can be broadly grouped by mode of transport and work-style as follows: • Car use • Public transport • Cycling and walking • Working arrangements Car Sharing /Car Pooling Car sharing can have a significant impact on the number of vehicles traveling to a site and can offer a practical alternative to staff members who feel that public transport is not a viable option. Car sharing is flexible and staff can use the option occasionally or regularly as suits. Many people already share journeys or give each other lifts to work. This is encouraged and promoted regularly. The Green Travel/Sustainable Commuter manager along with HR Dept is facilitating by acting as a central contact point for potential sharers. Carpools consist of two or more persons driving together in a privately owned vehicle. At a workplace, employees may choose to carpool without any assistance or involvement from the employer; however, carpool incentive programs are a way for employers to encourage employees to carpool. PBC is a registered member of www.delhicarpool.com Carpool incentive programs may incorporate a variety of means to encourage employees to carpool. HRD along with Mobility manager from Tour & Travels department motivate the employees for carpools through rideshare matching. Rideshare matching helps potential car-poolers locate others nearby with similar schedules. Employers can direct their employees to these free services. Employee benefits include cost sharing, less wear and tear of vehicles, time savings in regions with HOV lanes, and the ability to talk, eat, sleep, or read while commuting. The primary employer advantage is the need for fewer parking spaces, other advantages include less employee stress and improved productivity. Car Parking Management Preferred Parking PBC offers workplace incentive for car-poolers in terms of preferred parking. Spaces can be designated for either individual carpools or rideshares in general. To be effective, designated spaces are located in desirable locations i.e. near the building Where employers charge for parking, reducing the parking cost for carpools encourages carpooling. Although carpools will effectively receive reduced parking cost in any case because the cost will be shared, employers may wish to reduce costs even further, or allow carpools to park with a discount of 25 % of Notional charges of Rs 1800 (US$ 40). Eco-driving and awareness Efficient and environment friendly commuting is promoted, various car related measures that are tried include energy efficiency training for the drivers, which is becoming common. Schemes to provide easy

Green Travel/ Sustainable Commuter during the day, such as pool cars or bicycles for meetings, are also helping. Public Transport Information Staff is encouraged to use public transport. Staff perceptions of public transport may be based on outdated experiences, or even on hearsay. Assuming attractive public transport options exist; information can be effective in selling them. HR Deptt along with Tour & Travels Deptt provides the information. Cycling and Walking The feasibility of measures promoting cycling and walking will be influenced by factors such as safety and ease of cycling to and from the site and the age of staff member. Generally distance up to 2 km is considered reasonable for walking, and up to 6 km for cycling. These distances are only indicative, but can help to define target groups. Although most staff feel that it was not too far to walk or cycle, the lack of lockers and shower facilities was seen as a barrier for these modes. Incentives and facilities given to PBC Employees include: Interest free loans for purchase of cycles Provision of “pool” bicycles for short distance business travel Well located cycle parking facilities within the premises – (Pictures enclosed) Preferential Parking area Working Arrangements Flexi time is encouraged, impacting transportation, allowing staff to avoid office peak hours, and reducing the contribution to traffic, which at times may remove the need for car travel. Teleworking/ Imail-Email system is typically conducted from the home or site offices. Teleconferences / Videoconferences are encouraged not only among team members but also vendors and subcontractors.

Sports and Leisure – To cope with the pressures of work, PBC™-STIP encourages fun and leisure activities at work. Parties are held on birthdays, festivals, etc. with the family members of the employees. Also movies, quiz programmes are held at PBC to motivate the work force and keep them updated. WOMEN’S DAY AT PBC

PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY, WOMEN EMPOWERMENT & CELEBRATING BIRTH

OF A GIRL CHILD AT PBC At PBC we recognize the power of a woman and immediately felt that the initiative to promote the girl child and club it with tree plantation was in line with our core business values. And Woman’s Day was the right occasion to start with the initiative.

NANNI CHHAAN:

PBC™ - STIP is Actively supporting the “NANHI CHHAAN betiyan aur jungle; jeevan karein mangal”, a gender equality and ecological conservation program as part of CII - Northern Region's proactive engagement programme for the corporate sector to promote girl child and environment conservation. This Woman’s Day we celebrated the birth of a girl child at PBC and under this programme we planted trees in the name of Girl Child born to the PBC team members, thereby creating awareness that a girl child is a boon / blessing and to be treated at par with the male child As, we are very much focused on the environmental front and therefore have tried to merge this social cause with the planting of trees and creating microclimates in order to increase the forest cover and save our planet – Earth. Commitment to NANHI CHHAAN – Promoting the concepts of Gender Equality and Inclusion and celebrating birth of a “Girl Child”

ENVIRONMENT

2. The organization adopts a precautionary approach to Environmental Challenges

PBC™- STIP is set up in a pollution free & green environment with Indoor Air Quality confirming to ASHRAE Standards. Care for the Environment has been an intrinsic part of our business.

TAKING CARE OF GENERAL WELL BEING OF BUILDING OCCUPANT

Our USP is providing mountain fresh air to PBC occupants. We use bio-technology to clean the indoor air of its pollutants by using green plants. We also monitor & check the indoor air quality specs - temperature, humidity, RSPM, SPM, CO2 etc. Our facility has negligible amount of bacterial and fungal count as a result of the air quality that is maintained indoors to ensure they conform to the ASHRAE Standard. All the readings are recorded to analyze further improvements. We post our daily IAQ readings on our website: www.pbcnet.com

HEALTH CAMP

PBC-STIP TM had organized a two-day free health camp by partnering with Quest Diagnostics, in July 2009. This initiative has been taken to educate team members & clients on health & well being related issues, in order to help them manage their health .The Health Camp included One-on-One health counseling session by a qualified nutritionist, Individual diet plans were given as per the individual requirements. This exercise helped our team members & clients in understanding the health related factors as under

- Body Mass Index - Blood Pressure - Random Blood Sugar - Counseling on Good Eating Habits & Wellness

TUBERCULOSIS TEST FOR TEAM MEMBERS & CLIENTS PBC had organized Tuberculosis Test for its team members & clients by partnering with the Apollo Clinic. It is a communicable disease and spreads through air. It has become more relevant & important, specially after Swine flu has been declared as pandemic by WHO, to undergo this test, as people suffering from TB are more likely to get infected with the H1N1 virus, as their immune system is already very weak. We encourage healthy working environment and therefore requested and arranged this social and health related initiative in our organization

CREATING AWARENESS ON SWINE FLUE & OTHER COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

PBC has taken lot of measures from entering swine flu viruses in PBC. Presentation was run through all the TFT’s to educate the clients, visitors and stakeholders about swine flue. Awareness campaign was done and a special webinar session was organized for our team member and clients.

3. The organization initiates promotion of greater environmental responsibility PBC™-STIP is minimizing the environmental impacts arising out of use of our products/services by adopting state of the art technology. Best Practices: Energy Management In Energy management we follow certain practices that help us in reducing our electricity bills without affecting the quality of life. We have benefited from these practices; our results show almost a 30% reduction in our electricity bills. These practices are continuously reviewed for further improvements. We at Paharpur Business Centre follow the following best practices in energy management

• Instead of GLS lamps, we use PL lights, which are plug in CFL lamps, they use compact fluorescent (CFL) technology meaning they are efficient and less costly to replace.

• All fluorescent lights in our office are Philips Trulite. These are BEE 5 star rated with electronic ballast.

• Motion sensors are used to switch off lights in unoccupied common areas.

Page 23: Paharpur Business Centre - Communication On Progress Report 2010

• All our displays are energy efficient LCDs/Plasma to save on energy.

• Energy consumption is monitored and analyzed on daily basis.

• Green mesh & heat reflective film has been put on the southwest side of the building to block the direct sun heat into the building.

• High Albedo paint has been put on the building envelope to reduce the indirect heat gain into the building.

• The heat gain into the building from the rooftop is minimum because of green house.

• Use of five star rated equipments especially air conditioners.

• High Efficiency Super Diesel is used for all DG sets to reduce pollution.

• Diesel is centrifuged to clean it before use in the Generators.

• Energy consumption is monitored and analyzed on daily basis on a BAS system

• Individual lighting controls installed in terrace cafeteria to further conserve energy and educate our clients as well as our team members on best practices on energy management.

Switch control installed in terrace cafeteria lights at PBC to conserve energy

PBC PROPAGATES LIFE STYLE CHANGES TO CONSERVE ENERGY, IN A BUILDING

Apart from the financial aspect, it also means that by conserving resources, and using them efficiently, we can ensure a healthier and greener planet for ourselves. Simple changes in lifestyle can offer substantial benefits to organizations:

• Switch off computer LCD when not using it. Do not leave it in standby mode.

• Turn off all electrical equipment at night – printers, photocopiers, etc.

• Use Chairs that have perforated back and bottom to provide for ventilation for human comfort.

• An example is the Herman Miller Aeron chair. This allows for indoor temperatures to be kept at 25 degrees Centigrade + /- 1 degree while providing occupant comfort. This is within the ASHRAE specifications.

• Dress code for summer should be No Jackets / No ties to be comfortable at 25 degrees centigrade.

• Each degree centigrade increase in temperature means a saving of 5% in air- conditioning costs.

• Clothes made out of lighter and preferably cotton based fabrics feel cooler.

• Color of Green is White.

Page 24: Paharpur Business Centre - Communication On Progress Report 2010

COMMUNICATION ON PROGRESS (COP) - 2010

******************** X ******************** Paharpur Business Centre & Software Technology Incubator Park. www.pbcnet.com

• White is a color that reflects light and thus has a cooling effect.

• The roof tops should be painted white, drive white color cars for better fuel efficiency and paint the west side of the office building white(for buildings in the tropics).

• The building envelope/ facade should be air tight and one should use indoor plants to grow your own fresh air, thereby reducing the fresh air requirements while meeting ASHRAE standards.

• Leverage / harness Internet Protocol to turn traditional buildings into networked automated buildings that integrate the utilities with operations – Converging separate applications such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), physical security and access, energy, lighting, fire and safety.

• This enables to streamline processes by providing a single connection for all building and IT systems.

• Use ‘Regen’ elevators to generate electricity. This will mean that the best way is to walk up and come down on the elevator in a building.

Environmental awareness among PBC Team Members & Stakeholders

Our values towards sustainable development encourage and motivate us to have a partnership with our customers & employees driving the organization towards sustainable development, as due to our inherent values and environmental sensitivity we are perceived as a great place to work in. Recognizing the fact that employees are the only physical assets that appreciates in value, we give great importance in creating and sustaining a work culture that allows people the space to learn, innovate, experiment and grow. PBC™-STIP aim is to encourage, facilitate and enhance staff development and to provide systematic training programme to staff. We continuously thrust on to create a value and knowledge based organization by indicating a culture of learning, innovation and team working and aligning business priorities with aspiration of employees leading to development of an empowered, responsive and competent human capital.

Some of the initiatives taken are as follows:

GREEN JOB FAIR

It pays to have a conscience. This was the motto at Delhi’s first-ever job fair for the green sector. The fair was an initiative to bring sustainable development into the mainstream. The three-day event from September 24 – 26, 2009 at India Habitat Centre was organized by The Climate Project India (TCPI) and the Sierra Club both non-profit organizations with a history in the environment sector. PBC, one of the sponsors of the event, also participated providing green job opportunities for the young talent. When asked how one can create green jobs, Mr. Kamal Meattle answered “By energy savings, energy saving tools and incentive for employees to drive them towards utility of environmental issues. ‘Green Jobs’ have a very high potential not only as a national intention but a global movement”.

STUDENTS OF INDIAN SCHOOL & SUSHANT SCHOOL OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE

LEARN SUSTAINABLE WAYS OF LIVING

Students of Indian School & Sushant School of Art and Architecture visited PBC and were sensitized on various issues related to environment and how each individual can take small steps to save our planet – “Earth” from the imminent dangers of Global warming & Climate Change.

The visit provided students with an excellent opportunity to learn about the features of a sustainable building and find inspiration for ways to green one’s own home.

The students were inspired by the sustainability measures undertaken in the facility making it the first retrofitted commercial building in the country to be certified with USGBC LEED (EB). What fascinated the most was the Air Quality System which uses plants to clean the air indoors

Care for environment has to be nurtured and taught to children from the very beginning in order to create responsible corporate citizens.

ANTI-CORRUPTION

10) Business should work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery PBC™-STIP has kept its policies transparent to prevent corruption in the business and is accountable & responsible to its stakeholders in ensuring that it conducts itself in an ethical manner. It is our endeavour to promote this specially in our supply chain management and we have to come out with a specific process as part of a management System. However we have addressed this in our Management Standing Instruction (MSI) as under:

Section -5 Issue -6: Acceptance of Gifts / Tips

Objective: To lay down a code of conduct for our employees so that we are viewed as a valued & Principled Business Institution.

All employees are barred from accepting any gifts, gratuities, payments or other favours from suppliers/clients. It must be understood that acceptance of any gifts / favours can lead to compromise of PBC interests and will be seen to be a serious breach of discipline. In case any gift is received by any employee (other than those of nominal value) from a client/supplier, this should be reported to the respective Head of Departments. We have similar policies & systems in place to arrest any kind of unethical and corrupt behavior by any employee. We do not compromise on our organization’s values & principles.
