To address the need for skilled professionals in grants management, the Performance Institute now offers a Grants Manager Certifi cate program. In order to achieve professional excellence, you must continually expand your skills and education. As grants become an increasingly important funding mechanism at all levels, the bar has been raised in government agencies, private organizations and nonprofi ts as managers seek to hire, promote and work with the most skilled individuals.
Complete two steps to earn your certifi cate:
Step 1: Complete the prerequisite course, Grants Management for Results Training
You may fulfi ll the prerequisite of the Grants Management for Results Training by meeting one or more of the following requirements:
Three years as a grants manager or analyst or program personnel whose main responsibility is the development and administration of grants
Successfully completing fi ve or more grant applications that have received money
Have been awarded grants totaling $500,000 and above
You will be required to submit a letter of intent outlining your qualifi cations and desire to opt out of the Grants Management for Results Training Series based on your current expertise.

Speaker Biography:
Elizabeth G. Holden MPA, EDFP, Senior Fellow, Council for Nonprofi t Innovation
Ms. Elizabeth G. Holden is a widely sought after national consultant and trainer on organizational issues that affect the public, private and nonprofi t sectors. She is currently CEO of PrimePoint, a non-partisan consulting fi rm whose mission is to increase organizational capacity by engaging human potential.
Ms. Holden currently serves as a Senior Fellow with the Performance Institute and the Council for Nonprofi t Innovation in Washington, D.C. The Performance Institute and the Council are national, non-partisan think tanks that provide consulting and training services to public agencies and nonprofi t organizations.
Previously, Ms. Holden was a trainer and consultant with Organizational Leadership Programs (OLP) and the Institute of Public Policy (IPP) at the Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs, University of Missouri. She provided organizational, leadership, and professional development training and consulting services to organizations operating in the public, private and nonprofi t sectors.
Day One: October 19, 2009*Understand Uniform Administrative Requirements The administrative requirements of OMB Circular A-102 and 2 CFR Part 215 are now the foundation of administrative grants regulations. To streamline your work processes this session will supply you with the tools necessary to apply provisions to current administra-tive issues. You will also gain fundamentals to review recipient fi nancial procedures and use administrative requirements to direct enforcement measures. These principles will help your agency with variations in implementation.

Overview of Administrative Requirements Understand the administrative requirements under OMB Circular A-102 and CFR Part 215
Examine the development of administrative requirements as well as recent and planned changes
Standards for Financial Management Systems Review grant recipient fi nancial system procedures and conform with the administrative requirements
Prepare and develop a reporting schedule for fi nancial and progress reports
Property and Procurement Standards Identify standards for title, use and disposition of real and intangible property, equipment and supplies

Day Two: October 20, 2009*Manage Grants and Cooperative Agreements Managers well versed in monitoring techniques have the ability to foresee potential barriers in the grants administration process. This course will provide you with the tools to implement an internal monitoring plan for your grant and sub-recipient performance. You will also be able to identify internal control problems and reporting defi ciencies by becoming adept at gauging grant performance and compliance.

Paul CalabreseSenior Manager
Mr. Calabrese is a Senior Manager, providing accounting and consulting services to not-for-profi t and government contracting clients. Mr. Calabrese has considerable experience with the Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and CAS disclosure statements, Federal Acquisition Regulation Cost Principles (FAR), Department of Defense (DOD) FAR Supplement, OMB Circulars A-110 and A-122 (cost principles for non-profi t organizations), the Federal Accounting Standards and Advisory Board (FASAB cost practices for federal agencies), and the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) manual.
Mr. Calabrese has 28 years of professional experience. In addition to 10 years of experience at a public accounting fi rm and 13 years with three government contractors, he was a Senior Auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA).
Mr. Calabrese received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from George Mason University with a core concentration in accounting. He is a fellow of the Greater Washington Society of Certifi ed Public Accountants (GWSCPA), including the Chair of their Not-For-Profi t Committee starting in the fall of 2007.

Day Three: October 21, 2009*Understand OMB Cost Principles to Improve Cost Recovery Obtain the knowledge to comprehend allowability of costs under the federal grant system. Gain the tools for review of cost allowability issues and ascertain a comprehensive knowledge of the cost principles under OMB Circulars A-21, A-87 and A-122. Lee KulmppSenior Manager, Assurance Division, BDO Seidman, LLP
Lee Klumpp is a Senior Manager with BDO Seidman, LLPs’ Assurance Division in Bethesda, MD. Prior to joining BDO Seidman, Lee worked in the audit practices of Ernst and Young, LLP and KPMG. His representative clients included Children’s National Medical Center, World Wildlife Fund American Cancer Society, Gift in Kind International, and American College of Cardiology. Mr. Klumpp is an accomplished speaker who has presented on numerous occasions on a variety of issues relating to nonprofi t organizations with signifi cant emphasis on Offi ce of Budget and Management Circulars A-133, A-122 and A-110 through the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, Virginia State Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of Certifi ed Public Accountants, as well as internally developed continuing professional education programs for the fi rms that he has worked for.

Day Four: October 22, 2009*Understand Audit Requirements for Grants Become an expert in audit requirements that includes a review of the OMB Circular A-133 audit process. You will gain insight into how an auditor thinks and what criteria are used to evaluate an audit report. This course will help you and your agency understand both sides of the audit process.

Cancellation Policy
For live events: The Performance Institute will provide a full refund less $399 administration fee for cancellations four weeks before the event. If cancellation occurs within two weeks prior to conference start date, no refund will be issued. Registrants who fail to attend and do not cancel prior to the event will be charged the entire registration fee.
For webinars: The Performance Institute will provide a full refund less $50 administrative fee for cancellations four weeks before the event. If cancellation occurs within two weeks prior to conference start date, no refund will be issued.
