• A cool bit about mount cook Aoraki is that it is the highest mountain in New Zealand.

• Aoraki became national a park in 1953.

• The park is located in the central part of the south island in the heart of the southern alps.

• The park is covered in harsh ice and rock

• The park is 27km long and up to 3km wide.

• The first attempt to climb mount cook aoraki was made in 1882 by an Irish man.

• Today the park is recognised as one of the finest mountaineering areas in the world for both experienced and non experienced.

• There is virtually no forest in the park , instead the park is alive with the most wonderful plants. In the park there is over 300 different plants.

• About 40 different species of birds are found in this park.

• The park is full of large dragonflies ,grasshoppers, distintine,moths and butterflies.
