Re: The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program

Introduction

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program(HAARP) is a program jointly funded by the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, the University of Alaska, and the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency also known as DRAPA. HAARP was created to analyze the ionosphere which is the upper level of the atmosphere interesting to scientists for its importance in short wave radio communication and because it’s a place where plasma forms naturally. HAARP also investigate the potential for developing ionospheric enhancement technology for radio communications and surveillance. HAARP is located on an Air Force owned site near Gakona, Alaska in a sub-arctic facility.

Background

HAARP was founded in 1990 in Alaska. Former Alaska state senator Ted Stevens was behind this program. HAARP sits in the middle of nowhere where it is guarded every day and all day. The main facility sits behind a barbed wire fence that stretches as far as the eye can see and have hundreds of oversized antennas that are one foot thick, seventy-two feet tall, and spaced precisely 80 feet apart. HAARP saw its financial peak when Senator Ted Stevens was at the height of his power in the mid-2000s.

The technology behind HAARP is designed to manipulate the environment among other things like jamming global communications, disrupt weather systems, interfere with migration patterns, disrupt human processes, affect your health negatively and even disrupt the upper atmosphere. The most prominent instrument at the HAARP station is the IRI. The IRI is the ionospheric research instrument. This instrument is a high power radio frequency transmitter operating in the high frequency band. The IRI is used to temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere.

HAARP went full operational after 15 years of preparations in 2007. The current working IRI was completed in 2007 and its prime contractor was BAE Systems Advanced Technologies. Major aspects of the program are kept secret for alleged reasons of national security.

Highlights

Discuss how HAARP affects people and their health and how the program can make modifications to the weather

Discuss how HAARP has been a main target of conspiracies Discuss the temporary shutdown of HAARP

How HAARP affects people

People should be concerned with the experimental testing that HAARP performs. HAARP’s experimental testing involves electromagnetic pollution and chemtrails. Chemtrails received its name for the term condensation trails. Condensation trails are an artificial cloud created by an aircraft caused by water vapor in the engine exhaust. These trails usually dissipate after ten minutes, but a chemtrail is a cloud like projection, created by chemicals, often the length of the sky floating for hours after their release. These chemtrails can contain barium, ethylene dibromide, and aluminum oxide and polymer fibers. These chemicals hold a risk of neurological disturbances, heart problems, and breathing problems. HAARP testing also involved ozone depletion where the ionosphere is disturbed and as they continue to increase power levels beyond their current levels, the health and safety risks become much greater and we start to enter into an area with which no one has really experimented. (Sterritt, n.d.)

Weather Modifications

HAARP researchers believed that manipulating weather systems would be advantageous in terms of drought control and producing rainfall where needed. HAARP had the ability to alter the course of jet streams by creating a column-shaped hole with a diameter of 30 miles that rises a couple hundred kilometers through the atmosphere then moves up the column to fill in that space, and it changes pressure systems below. In the April/May 2000 issue of Scientific American there is an article about a jet stream having a slight bend. The slight bend happened right above the HAARP facility. That specific little movement caused a storm front 4,000 miles away in east Texas and Louisiana to move into central Florida where there was a couple of tornadoes. (Begich, 2001)

Conspiracies

It is believed that HAARP is the cause of numerous major disasters that has happened in the past. Eric Dubay, a conspiracy blogger, lives in Thailand and he believes that HAARP caused the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked northern Japan in March 2011. He believes that the waves generated by HAARP antennas are focused on a specific part of the ionosphere with enough force to make the entire thing buckle into space. (Baird, 2011)

There is a storied tradition of blaming devastating hurricanes on HAARP. The conspiracy gained momentum in 2005 when there was three hurricanes back to back. There was hurricane Katrina, hurricane Rita, and hurricane Wilma. It is also believed that the government is using shortwave radio communication generated in Gakona to control minds of unsuspecting Americans. (Baird, 2011)

Researchers think HAARP is a prototype for a Stars Wars weapons system or it might be used to disrupt enemy radio communications. These abilities are all described in the original patents that the HAARP antenna array is based on. The people who runs HAARP deny any connection between HAARP and those patents however. (Smith, n.d.)

HAARP does not open its doors the same way as other federally-funded research facilities around the country to explain their research to the public. This is another reason HAARP is subject to the numerous conspiracies.

HAARP Closing

In May of 2013 HAARP was shut down. According to the director of the program, Dr. James Keeney there is not enough money to operate. When Dr. Keeney was asked about the shutdown of HAARP he responded by saying “Currently the site is abandoned,” “It comes down to money, and we don’t have any.” HAARP put out a notice two years ago that it would be shutting down and did not submit a budget request.

The cause of the shutdown was less fiscal than environmental. The diesel generators on site no longer passed the Clean Air Act requirements and to repair them to EPA standards will run $800,000.00. It costs $300,000.00 a month just to keep the facility open and $500,000 to run it at a full capacity for ten days. It has been reported that HAARP is closed temporarily due to a change in contractors. DRAPA is expected as a client to finish up some research this fall and winter. (Radio, 2013)

Conclusion

HAARP is the subject of a lot of conspiracies and have been blamed for numerous things, but some of the things that have been said is the cause of HAARP’s research is a little farfetched. HAARP may not be the subject of these things if there wasn’t a level of unnecessary secrecy that is involved in HAARP. When you don’t open your doors to the public or if you don’t make an effort to explain your research to the public then that leaves the public no choice to assume things about the program. I’m pretty sure that HAARP did not cause any of the things that they have been blamed for. I also do not support the fact that this program was even started in the first place. It took them 15 years to even become fully operational and that’s a long time. This program is also not as important if you compared it to more pressing matters like war, healthcare, and the state of the economy. The money that was spent on this program while the facility was open could have been spent elsewhere.
