Millennial Childhood Influences Kids were raised with laws protecting them

more than any other generation in history. First generation in history to be encouraged

to talk openly about their feelings. Encouraged to participate in family and

household decisions at a much earlier age. Raised with protectiveness, “helicopter

parents” term emerged. Rewarded every step of the way by teachers,

peers and at home by doting parents.

Gen-X Childhood Influences Generation of latch key kids born during one of the

most blatantly anti-child phases in history. Highest divorce & abortion rates and dual income

families, most permissive parenting habits in history. Feminism and women going to work.

Often viewed as intrusive obstacles to their parents’ self-exploration. Average quality time with parent was 15 minutes a day.

Xers found themselves in the highest child poverty rates, and later in their lives, the lowest wage and homeowner rates - since the great depression. First generation not to be better off than their parents.

Parents laid off in the 80’s recession and that had a profound impact on them.
