Lt. Gen. Mary legere
Awards and Decorations
Lt. Gen. Mary Legere has served as the Army’s Senior
Intelligence Officer since April 2012, when she was
promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
She has served her country for more than thirty years in
positions of leadership and intelligence, and has
commanded at all levels.
Her first assignment was as a Collection and Jamming
Platoon Leader assigned to the United States Army in
Europe.
She has also commanded at the company,
battalion and brigade command level, and as the
commanding general, U.S. Army intelligence and
security command responsible for directing and
orchestrating the multi-discipline intelligence and
security operations of 17,000 intelligence
professionals serving in over 20 countries across
the globe.
As an intelligence staff officer, she has served at the
brigade, division, corps and theater level serving as the
senior military intelligence officer and j2 for united
states forces korea and for the multi-national forces
iraq.
She has been the recipient of numerous awards and
decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal
(One Oak Leaf Cluster), the Legion of Merit (One Oak Leaf
Cluster), a Bronze Star Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal
(Five Oak Leaf Clusters), an Army Commendation Medal (Two
Oak Leaf Clusters), a Joint Service Achievement Medal, an
Army Achievement Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), a
Parachutists Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
She has also received the Korean National Security Award,
the Knowlton Award, and the Directors Award for
Contributions to the Intelligence Community.
Lt. Gen. mary legere is one of just nineteen female
general officers in the army.
She has served as the senior U.S. Intelligence officer
for U.S. Forces korea and for multi-national force-iraq,
has participated in operation joint forge and
operation iraqi freedom and as the army’s senior
operational intelligence commander, directed and
supported multi-discipline operations in seven
geographic theaters around the globe.
