The Economist Intelligence Unit Limited
(Dec. 2011)
There are few economic policies as popular as research
parks, incubators and clusters –very hot today.
It is hard today to find a country, region, or even a city
that is not trying to develop a network of competitive
firms (clusters)
The “political appeal” is therefore obvious, particularly
now that the world’s economic crisis has put a spotlight
on “innovation” to diversify economies and create jobs
However the difficulty lies in turning these “science
parks”, incubators or “hi-tech”corridors into success
stories. Not so simple.
M.Hinoul
Globally there are more than
1400 cluster initiatives
Hollywood
Bordeaux
New York & London financial services
Silicon Valley
