Situational leadership says that for a given situation & subject, at any one time, there is someone on the team more familiar and better able to make it simple to understand helping the team overcome an otherwise scary scenerio --- whether from their personality, philosophy, experience or technical skill. As a whole the team wins.
Used to be that a Leader had personal qualities that made them stand out. Scientifically it was not a workable theory --- you could not replicate it.
There is also the transactional theory of Leadership meaning reward & punishment doled out by the person given the top position.
But as team members became more experienced and older, they were overshooting those rewards in their personal lives.
So it did not address why someone was now more willing to do a good job as oppose to not.
