Indian eCommerce Industry Creates Huge Demand for Delivery Personnel Since the last decade or so, consumers all across the globe have embraced the concept of online shopping quite voraciously. Many billions of dollars worth of merchandise is sold each year from thousands of online shopping websites that are in fact themselves increasing at a very fast pace. Reports suggest that this phenomenal rise in eCommerce is not just limited to the western world but even in South Asian countries like India and China. India, for instance, has become a hot-spot for eCommerce activity in the past decade. Three websites particularly, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon, are controlling the major chunk of the online shopping business in India. These websites alone have registered such high volume of business in the recent few years that in the metro cities if India, they have virtually wiped out many traditional brick and mortar stores by overtaking their business. In proportion to the high volume sales that they generate, these eCommerce websites have a massive requirement for eCommerce delivery services. Depending on company to company, these door to door delivery services are handled in-house or outsourced to professional courier services companies of India. Either ways, the fact is that the merchandise needs to be delivered to the customer premises in good shape. This results in a very huge demand for delivery personnel. According to the news portal indiatimes.com, the demand has accelerated to about 100,000 bikers in Nov 2015, according to staffing firms which are facing a massive shortage of up to 70%. A year ago, online retailers in the country required just about 40,000 bikers to deliver the goods. Industry experts opine that this festive season, up to one lakh jobs will be created in primarily the delivery, logistics and customer care space in India. The spike in the number of ecommerce companies has led to a demand-supply gap where companies are finding it challenging to hire delivery talent. 16 NOV International and Domestic Courier Service in India International and Domestic Courier Service in India search
