HOW TO KEEP YOUR OUTDOOR GRILL LIKE NEW

Outdoor grilling is a spectacular summer time activity. There are many ways to extend the life of your outdoor grill including proper cleaning, oiling and storing.

One of the most enjoyable activities to participate in during the good weather months is firing up the grill. It provides entertainment, delicious food and a great excuse to have people over. Regardless if you have invested in a cheap or luxurious grill, to extend its lifetime it is important to spend a little time doing some proper maintenance. Below are some tips on how to keep your outdoor grill like new.

Taking care of the grill grate is imperative to have a grill working in tip-top shape. Get the fire started beneath and let the grate heat up for five or more minutes before you start cleaning the grate. This allows the remnants from the last grill session to burn away. After a few minutes have passed, use your grill brush to clean off the remaining food. Because the grate is the area that comes in most contact with food, you will want to spend the majority of your time cleaning this area. After cleaning it is recommended to oil your grate so you can avoid your food sticking. Simply dip a paper towel in some oil, and using some grill safe tongs, rub oil evenly over the grate. This doesn’t need to be done every time, but on a regular basis. Once you are done cooking, it can be hard to leave the food remnants on the grill, but the black encasings actually help protect the grill until its next use.

Cleaning the outside of your grill is important, but not as vital as keeping the grill grate clean and removing the ash after each use. To keep the outside looking as good as new, take a paper towel and glass cleaner or stainless steel cleaner and buff with the grain and not against.

One of the biggest ways to keep your grill as good as new is investing in a grill cover. When your grill is exposed to all of the weather elements, it can easily turn to a rusty old can no matter how much money you spent on it. A cover provides not only protection from rusting, but guards the inside of your grill as well allowing for the burners to all run at the same temperatures and work properly.

All of these tips require minimal work from you, but result in a long lifetime with your grill. It is advised to show your grill some love before and after grilling, and it will return the favor with some delicious food.
