How to deal with changes during coordination review?
One of the most important tasks that is performed by design development team members is to
implement some kind of action for each design change that is applied to those elements on
which monitoring relationships have been established when a 3D model of a certain discipline is
linked to a host model. Before an action is taken by Revit users they fully evaluate the change in
terms of it being effective or ineffective when it comes to design improvements.
Changes in model elements are generally done if BIM modelers find that a certain element is
either overlapping an element from another model or else if two elements within a model share
close locations leading to design congestions.
Actions implemented by BIM modelers for dealing with changes at the time of coordination
review
There are various scenarios that come across BIM modelers during coordination review
concerning the changes such as the change can either be acceptable or unacceptable to
them.
On the other hand there may be chances when BIM modelers do not feel like addressing
the issue at that point of time. So depending upon the importance and effectiveness of the
change actions are taken by modelers.
For instance, a certain change has been made to a structural element which was coming
on the way of an architectural element and considering the design situation it is important
to implement that change, in that case modelers has to accept it.
So for accepting the change they are required to select ‘Accept the difference’ action
from Action column within coordination review dialog.
On the other hand if a modification made to an element does not make appropriate sense
and it’s not worth to eventually implement it then modelers can select ‘Reject’ option
from Action column.
Now in a situation wherein modelers do not feel like evaluating the change which would
be rather evaluated by them later on, they can select ‘Postpone/Do nothing’ option within
Action column. It means that modelers are simply postponing the task for some time and
it will definitely be carried out by them later.
On the other hand if Revit users have made a change in the name of a monitored element
then users are required to select ‘Rename’ which would eventually help in renaming the
element.
Similarly if an element (especially level or column) has been moved from its position
then users are required to select ‘Move’ so that the change made in the element can be
implemented.
Thus by choosing appropriate action Revit users can successfully handle change related issues.
