The shot types I will be going over are ones that have important connotations that will help portray the ideologies for my production, these are:- Close up - Long Shot - OSS shot- Also high and low camera angles should be

considered.

Shot types and Connotations

Page 3: Form research

- A close up is a shot that only shows the head

of a person. - A close up is a shot that is done to show the

facial expression of a person, the shot also has connotations of vulnerability.

Close up

Page 4: Form research

- A long shot is a shot that shows the whole

body of a character (head to feet).- A long shot establishes the location, and

shows the body language of a person.

Long Shot

Page 5: Form research

- The over the shoulder shot is a shot that is

useful for dialogue.- The main rule that considers the OSS shot is

the 360 degree rule.

OSS Shot

Page 6: Form research

- A high camera angle connotes vulnerability, as

it makes the subject look smaller- Contrasting this a low angle shot connotes

power and superiority, as it makes the subject look bigger, and as if he is towering over you.

Camera angles

Page 7: Form research

- A pan is where the camera is fixed on a tripod

and turning. This has connotations of the feeling of surprise

- Tracking is where the camera manually moves in and out. This connotes facial expression.

Camera Movements and connotations

- There are three types of lighting, and it is

most likely that all will be featured in my production.

- Ambient lighting – this is lighting from outside.- High key – this is where the frame is bright,

and is done to portray the hero of a film. - Low key – this is darker lighting, and portrays

the villain in a film.

Lighting

Page 9: Form research

- High and low angle shots should be considered for when

establishing characters.- Panning and tracking will be useful for scenes that involve

violence, and chase scenes, which are conventional of crime films (this is shown in earlier research).

- Lighting will also be useful for establishing characters.- Long shots will be useful for chase scenes, since they

show all the body language of a subject.- Close ups can show the expressions of characters, which

can help make the production more believable.- OSS shots will be good for shooting scenes, as the camera

will show who is shooting who.
