IntroductionFocus group

Moderator

A Focus group is where a number of people are asked to come together in order to discuss a certain issue for the purpose of research. The focus group is faciliated by a moderator. Though one and half hour is an ideal length some focus group last a lot longer.

Moderator is who ask question, try to ensure that everyone has an input and continues the flow of the discussion. Through experience and practice anyone can be a moderator.

Video recording equipment can be hired

Tape recorder need to be powerful enough to pick up every voice

The recorder should be placed on a non-vibratory surface at equal distance from each participant

Beware of any noise which could disrupt the recorder

Choosing a venueTo make sure you choose the right venue you should consider some matter. Some of them are

The venue should be accessible physically and mentally

the building should be easy to find and room should be easy to locate.

Free parking should be available and public transport should be accessible

The venue should be free from background noise and any kind of interruption.

Recruiting ParticipantWithout participant there is no focus group. So recruiting participants is very important.

Odd number of participant works better

Over-recruit to ensure enough participants

Great participants with drinking's and snacks if possible them give incentives

Knock participants the day before the focus group to confirm their participants

Participant must have common bonding to feel comfort to chat to each other
