ACTIVATED SLUDGE

CONTACT STABILIZATION

AEROBIC DIGESTION

SURFACE WATER

REGENERATION

EVAPORATION PONDS

PRE-AERATION

FISHERIES

AERATED LAGOONS

POLLUTED RIVERS

LAKES & PONDS

Years of intensive Research & Development have accomplished the development of the ‘Energy Efficient Aerator’. The result is a sturdy unit which combines high oxygenation efficiency (Oxygen Transfer Capacity ranging from 1.6 To 2.8 Kg per HP/Hour depending upon the size & atmospheric condition) with thorough mixing and propulsion of the influence to disperse the oxygen throughout the whole mass of the effluent zone

Page 17: Effluent Treatment Plant

and vigorous agitation to achieve the minimum ripple velocity to keep the solids in suspension. The entire design is amazingly so simple that it is very easy to install, to run AND to maintain. It can be mounted on R.C.C. platform or on fabricated steel platform or on pontoons.

New Generation of Energy Efficient Aerators with Specially designed Impellers. Offered for SIDE WATER DEPTH upto 6.0 mtrs. Aeration Tanks.

Special Features Fabricated & Machined Base frame for 5HP to 15HP rating & for 20HP & above

Heavy ISMB Beam Base is used. So vibrations are lessened & again the base is machined on the top surface, so the life of the Gearbox is increased.

Cantilevered load reaction is passed through additional bearings and housing to beam base bottom to RCC platform. So gearbox is not at all affected by overhung load. So life of the  gearbox is increased.

Additional Bearing Support is provided to the Aerator Shaft, so the unbalanced cantilevered loads are NOT passed to the output shaft of the Gearbox, but those loads are taken by TWO EXTRA bearings & housing. So life of the Gear box is increased.

Floor / base support area is 100 times more, so possibility of vibrations is reduced accordingly.

Due to conical Impeller and Solid MS shaft, CG lies nearer to center, so less impact loading.

Impeller is machined at centre for its concentric running. Since shaft is fully machined, NO possibility of VOUBLING of shaft concentric

running of impeller is ensured.

Page 18: Effluent Treatment Plant

Since Horizontal foot mounted motor is used, the conditions are not seviour as those of flange mounted motor.

MAINTENANCE of the gearbox is minimal & handling is easier, as the Extra Bearings are provided to the Impeller Shaft.

Spares of the worm gearbox are easily available at comparatively lower cost. Wetted Parts are FRP Lined. Oxygen Transfer Test as per International American Standard & Wrinklers

Procedure of all the Proto type Aerators upto 100 HP are taken in our Inhouse Oxygen Transfer Testing Facility before placing in the market.

Specially designed Impeller is offered for HIGHER WATER DEPTH upto 6.0 mtrs. Aeration Tanks. (Less area for Aeration Tank is required, so saving in space)

Main Design & Constructional Aspects

Electric Motor

Electric motor is standard horizontal foot mounted, Square cage induction type three phase, totally enclosed fan cooled with IP 55, enclosure suitable for outdoor installation, being standard motor, easy availability and minimum ‘DOWN TIME’ are the direct advantages. Flange mounted motor is used for Helical gear type Aerator.

Gear Reducer

The worm gears (or helical gears only if asked for) are used having suitable service factor. The reducer bearing and gears are ‘OIL BATH LUBRICATED’ housed in cast iron casing. Since Greaves (Radicon) / Elecon make gears are used, trouble free and long working life of the gears are ensured.

First in India to offer machined beam base

Advantages of Slow Speed Aerators Against High Speed Floating Aerator

ENVIRON does not recommend High Speed version of Aerators, since 1) Their influence zone is less compared to Slow speed ones 2) They cater SHALLOW DEPTHS as compared to Slow speed ones 3) They need Rigorous preventive maintenance because of a) Shaft and Bush pattern, remaining in effluent b) Possibility of clinging, adhering of bunch of threads, bunch of hair, plastic bags, cotton rags etc. between the blade tips & housing pipe. So from the process point of view and maintenance point of view, ENVIRON highly recommend SLOW SPEED FLOATING AERATORS.

Effluent Treatment Plant - Improving Performance & Reducing Pollution

"Improving the Performance of Effluent Treatment Plant - A Good Practice Guide"

Effluent Treatment Plant - This informative good practice guide deals with improving the performance of effluent treatment plant to reduce operating costs and reduce environmental pollution. Most companies operate effluent treatment plants to reduce the

Page 25: Effluent Treatment Plant

potential for pollution of receiving waters and to comply with discharge consent conditions. Effective management and control of the processes used for effluent treatment will help you to:

o Reduce your operating costs and thus increase profits.o Achieve more effective compliance with legislation.o Improve your company's public image.

This good practice guide aims to help companies reduce the costs associated with effluent treatment plant operation by at least 5%. As illustrated by the four Industry Examples at the back of the guide, some companies have achieved significantly greater cost savings by improving the performance of their effluent treatment plant (ETP). Although the guide is aimed particularly at the speciality chemicals industry, the advice given is applicable to many other companies operating an effluent treatment plant.

Before reviewing the operation of their ETP, companies are urged to take action to minimise the amount and strength of the effluent created by production processes. Producing less effluent in the first place will reduce the demands made on the ETP and thus save both money and effort.

ETP - Good Practice Guide

A thorough understanding of the nature and properties of your company's effluents is essential for cost-effective pollution control. The guide describes how to characterise your effluent streams and identifies key control parameters. It describes how to improve the performance of the most common treatment processes, including neutralisation, equalisation and activated sludge treatment. Advice on how to reduce sludge management costs is also given.

Improving the performance of the ETP will reduce your site's operating costs and make it easier for your site to comply with its discharge consent conditions.

Sites discharging to sewer will also reduce their trade effluent charges.

The five steps to effective effluent management are:

o characterise all effluents produced on-site;o implement a waste minimisation programme to reduce the volume and

strengths of effluents;o incorporate in-process conditioning and treatment, where appropriate;o determine and install segregation facilities to tailor treatment options;o optimise performance of ETP............... more >>

The effluent treatment plants are designed to treat the effluent coming from different areas of the plant. The treatment of different effluents varies with the type of effluent. Water effluent treatment systems are designed to treat effluent mainly containing oily effluent. The water from the Transformer Area, Turbine building, Workshop etc., is collected in common collection sump from where water is pumped through the Plate Interceptor.

With the increase in the number industries, there is an increment of compounds of heavy metals and synthesized organic compounds into water causing its pollution. It is

Page 27: Effluent Treatment Plant

adding some 10,000 new organic compounds each year. Our company holds great reputation in the market as a manufacturer, supplier, and exporter of flawless effluent treatment plants (ETP). We have over a decade of experience in making and exporting effluent water treatment plants. These ETPs are based on cutting-edge technology.

Further, with the technological changes in manufacturing process has resulted into more addition of compounds discharge. Conventional waste water treatment process is not efficient to treat the polluted water. With this thought in mind, Eco-Chem Laboratories P Ltd offers top-quality industrial effluent treatment plants which are highly appreciated by our clients for their effectiveness, easy handling, less maintenance, and affordable prices.

Operation:

Our effluent treatment plant and system is based on the aerobic respiration method; it consists of three stages namely primary treatment, secondary bio-treatment, and tertiary treatment. The effluent water is passed through various processes such as chemical dosing, aeration, and settling. The final treatment filtration cum absorption takes place by filters. Finally, the processed water goes for advance treatment and we get usable water which can be used further for irrigation and other purposes.

The Hyperion Wastewater Treatment plant is located in southwest Los Angeles, California, next to Dockweiler State Beach on Santa Monica Bay. The largest wastewater treatment facility in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, Hyperion is operated by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation.

History

Until 1925, raw sewage from the city of Los Angeles was discharged untreated directly into Santa Monica Bay in the region of today’s Hyperion Treatment Plant.[1]

With the population increase, the amount of sewage became a major problem to the beaches, so in 1925 the city of Los Angeles built a simple screening plant in the 200 acres (0.81 km2) the city had acquired in 1892.[1]

Even with the screening plant, the quality of the water in the Santa Monica Bay was unacceptable, and in 1950 the city of Los Angeles opened the Hyperion Treatment Plant with full secondary treatment processes. In addition, the new plant included capture of biogas from anaerobic digesters to produce heat dried fertilizer.[1]

In order to keep up with the increase of influent wastewater produced by the ever growing city of Los Angeles, by 1957 the plant engineers had cut back treatment levels and increased the discharge of a blend of primary and secondary effluent through a five-mile (8 km) pipe into the ocean. They also opted to halt the production of fertilizers and started discharging digested sludge into the Santa Monica Bay through a seven-mile (11 km) pipe.[1]

Marine life in Santa Monica Bay suffered from the continuous discharge of 25 million pounds of wastewater solids (sludge) per month. Samples of the ocean floor where sludge had been discharged for 30 years demonstrated that the only living creatures were worms and a hardy species of clam. Additionally, coastal monitoring revealed that Bay waters often did not meet quality standards as the result of Hyperion’s effluent. These issues resulted in the City entering into a consent decree with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the State of California to build major facility upgrades at Hyperion. In 1980, Los Angeles launched a massive sludge-out to full secondary program to capture all biosolids and keep them from entering the Bay. The sludge-out portion of the program was completed in 1987.

Page 29: Effluent Treatment Plant

The $1.6 billion sludge-out to full secondary construction program replaced nearly every 1950-vintage wastewater processing system at Hyperion while the plant continuously treated 350 mgd and met all NPDES permit requirements.

Answer:  Improve

A water treatment plant will usually take water from a dammed river. The water is then filtered and purified till it is potable (that is, drinkable). Depending on the quality of the water it may have to be disinfected with chlorine or other chemicals to make it safe for use.

An effluent treatment plant takes sewage runoff from toilets, factories, stormwater drains and other sources.

Screening: First the effluent is screened to remove any solids (cans, plastic, condoms, tampons etc). It then moves through a tank slowly enough so that sand, stones and rock sink to the bottom where they can be removed before the mixture starts going through pumps. (The sand is usually sent to landfill.)

Primary Treatment: The sewage then flows slowly through large tanks. Here the sludge sinks to the bottom and the oil and grease rise to the top. The sludge and the oils are then removed.

Secondary Treatment: The remaining mixture is treated using aerobic biological

Page 30: Effluent Treatment Plant

processes. Air is pumped through to encourage bacteria and protozoas to break down the contaminants.

Tertiary Treatment: Finally the treated water is given a final processing before it is discharged into a river, lake or ocean. Any one or more of the following methods are used:

filtration (through sands) lagooning (stored in large man-made lagoons where reeds and other plants assist) constructed wetlands (rather like lagooning, using reedbeds and other similar

Alkaline Cleaner Recovery

Alkaline cleaning is performed on metal parts at different times during the manufacturing process to remove oils, coolants and other metalworking fluids prior to electroplating.

Archimedes / Screw Pumping

Originally applied for drainage and irrigation, today Archimedes screws / screw pumps are commonly used in sewage treatment plants because they cope well with varying rates of flow and suspended solids.

Biological Wastewater Treatment

Biological wastewater

BOD & COD Reduction

Having a safe BOD level in wastewater is essential to producing quality effluent. If the BOD level is too high then the water could be

at risk for further contamination, interfering with the treatment process and affecting the end product.

Chemical Feed and Control

Chemical feed and control systems are a vital component in all wastewater treatment applications. Each chemical has its own unique set of challenges that must be taken into consideration in the design, selection and application of the feed system.

Clarification and Sedimentation

Wastewater Clarification, or sedimentation, is a common and essential process in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.

Page 34: Effluent Treatment Plant

Disinfection

Wastewater disinfection systems prevent the growth of microorganisms, or pathogens, that produce human diseases. Careful measures must be taken when trying to do away with these microorganisms.

Dissolved Metals Removal

Industrial wastewaters containing dissolved metals are treated to reduce the metal contaminants to meet discharge requirements and/or achieve the water quality level needed for reuse and recycling.

Hazardous Waste Treatment

Hazardous wastes are generated as the result of treatment steps performed on industrial wastewaters prior to discharge, or contaminant-containing groundwaters. The treatment process produces a residual waste, including sludge

Hexavalent Chrome Removal

The US EPA has established standards that require the destruction of chromates prior to discharge to avoid the potential risks of surface and drinking water contamination.

and spent media.

Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment

Virtually every industry uses water in its process to one degree or another to make a product or provide a service. This use can be either direct, such as for the production of steam, or indirect, such as for rinsing water for semiconductor chips.

Nutrient Removal

Nutrient removal is achieved by reducing the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus levels with advanced wastewater technologies. Higher quality wastewater effluent is the result of this process.

Oil Water Separation

Wastewater oil water separation is a process that many refineries or other oil processors undergo. Siemens

Primary Wastewater Treatment

Primary wastewater treatment, the second step in the wastewater treatment process, involves the physical

separation of suspended solids from the wastewater flow using gravity filters.

Secondary Wastewater Treatment

Secondary wastewater treatment is the 2nd stage of wastewater treatment that takes place after the primary treatment process.

Spent Caustic Treatment

Spent caustic streams from refineries and ethylene production typically have a high chemical oxygen demand (20 - 500 g/L) and contain chemicals that are hazardous, inhibitory, and/or biorefactory.

Tertiary

TOC Reduction

Page 37: Effluent Treatment Plant

Wastewater Treatment

Tertiary treatment is the next wastewater treatment process after secondary treatment. This step removes stubborn contaminants that secondary treatment was not able to clean up.

Trace organics are a key challenge facing the wastewater industry

Different technologies for Biological treatment of Effluent/ Sewage Treatment Plant :

The effluent after primary treatment will be subjected to secondary treatment. The major goal of this treatment is to remove soluble Organic Pollutants by oxidation & settling. This involves bringing the active microbes in contact with waste water which consume the impurities as food. These organisms; in presence of Oxygen (O2), convert the

Page 39: Effluent Treatment Plant

biodegradable organic matter into Carbon Di Oxide (CO2) water, more cell material and other inert products. With the help of this the total BOD reduction will be 90-95%.
