Design, Operation And Analysis Of Waste Water 10The API separator is a gravity separation device designed by using Stokes Law to define therise velocity of oil droplets based on their density and size. The design is based on the specificgravity difference between the oil and the wastewater because that difference is muchsmaller than the specific gravity difference between the suspended solids and water.
The parallel plates provide more surface forsuspended oil droplets to coalesce into larger globules. Such separators still depend upon thespecific gravity between the suspended oil and the water. However, the parallel platesenhance the degree of oil-water separation. The result is that a parallel plate separatorrequires significantly less space than a conventional separator to achieve the samedegree of separation.
The advantages of Effluent Treatment Plant:• The process is prone to bulking of solids and the treatment system can becomeoverloaded.• This can cause the dissolved oxygen content to drop; if the effect that the organic matteris not fully degraded.• Excessive aeration will be required which wastes electricity.If MLSS content is too low• The process is not operating efficiently and is wasting energy.

Storage is needed for the following reasons:i. To equalize daily variations in flow from the treatment plant and to store excess when average wastwater flow exceeds irrigation demands; includes winter storage.ii. To meet peak irrigation demands in excess of the average wastewater flow.
iii. To minimize the effects of disruptions in the operations of the treatment plant and irrigation system. Storage is used to provide insurance against the possibility of unsuitable reclaimed wastewater entering the irrigation system and to provide additional time to resolve temporary water quality problems.
