CERP-IoT Objectives

2

Facilitate networking of different RFID and IoT projects in Europe1

Coordinate research activities in IoT including RFID2

Leverage expertise, talents, and resources and maximise impact3

Establish synergies between projects4

CERP-IoT is bringing European research projects together to define and promote a common vision of the Internet of Things including RFID

CERP-IoT Focus areas in 2009

Production of a first “Fall 2009” Strategic Research Agenda (a pdf document produced by the cluster) delivered publicly today 7 October 2009 and followed next year by a “Fall 2010” version

Publication of Cluster book (planned for Spring 2010) presenting the projects activities and including the Fall 2009 CERP-IoT SRA, contribution in high level events and conferences and identification of specific areas of cooperation between research projects

Reinforcement of network synergies with the EU Thematic Network “RACE Network RFID”, CASAGRAS and GRIFS.

CERP-IoT SRA, a 4 step approach

1. IoT common definition about the meaning of "Things" and IoT visions

2. IoT Application Domains for the future IoT3. Technologies that will drive the IoT development

and supporting the IoT vision4. IoT Research Agenda, presenting the research

challenges and priorities, the standardization issues and the security and privacy concerns that have to be addressed and solved over the next decade

Need for a common IoT definition

IoT Definition

The Internet of Things is an integrated part of Future Internet

Defined as a dynamic global network infrastructure with self configuring capabilities based on standard and interoperable communication protocols where physical and virtual “things” have identities, physical attributes, virtual personalities and use intelligent interfaces, and are seamlessly integrated into the information network.
