How to Grow is a new online meeting point to support business development in the creative industries where users can share ideas and content and access services designed for the needs of the creative sectors.

This online platform is being developed under BCreative, a European project supported and partly funded by the European Commission DG ENTR, under the Europe INNOVA initiative.

João Mena de Matos is director of the European Design Centre in The Netherlands. He is also Statutory director of the following high tech companies: EDC Innovation Lab BV (ICT/RFID based solutions airline industry), MedSim BV (High-end simulators and serious games for the medical sector), and iBuild BV (mass customization in construction and city planning).

Within the latest years he was involved in various Board of Directors functions such as the European Multimedia Forum in Brussels, the Centre for International Technology and Education in London, the Board of Directors of the Dutch Design Platform, Board of Directors Centre for Product & Product Innovation (CP&P),

Eindhoven, Board of Directors United Brains (Spin-off company from Technical University/Fontys High-Schools and Design Academy Eindhoven), and the Dutch Design Awards. He is also an offi cial evaluator and advisor of the European Commission programmes. Joao Mena de Matos initiated many European projects, including the ADMIRE project, which set off the DME Award in 2007.

Jaspar Roos is an entrepreneurial banker and has over ten years experience in different banking positions within ABN AMRO. Since 2007, Jaspar has been working in the area of corporate venturing.

Jaspar is responsible for the Dialogues Incubator, ABN AMRO’s accelerator for radical fi nancial innovation. Dialogues Incubator has received different awards and acknowledgements for the concept, startup ventures and resilience in tough times. Examples include Rationalizer, Artstart and Associates. Next to Dialogues Incubator, Jaspar is founder and Ceo of several other companies, like Inspiration Academy and Incubator Exchange, a platform uniting innovation specialists

in the world. Jaspar is also active/board member of several innovation and incubation teams (like trend group of Dutch Marketing Association, Flowland and Erasmus Medical Center Incubator). Jaspar holds a master degree in Information Technology. Jaspar has a keen interest in art, innovation and having fun at all times.

Geleyn Meijer is an inspirational leader with a proven track record on innovation leadership and a wide international network. As Strategy & Innovation Director of Logica he is driven by the creative potential of our economy and society. He acts as a thought leader in services innovation and masterminded embedded innovation as innovation process for ICT services companies.

He represents Logica in various national and international eco-systems on the future of the IT services industry and is expert in the Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group, a EU-wide think-tank.He is advisor to the Dutch ICT innovation council, stimulating the creativity in services development among businesses

and academia. Together with leading Dutch media companies, SME’s and universities he launched the ICT Innovation Platform for the Creative industry (IIP/Create).

Geleyn received his PhD in Robotics and Computer Science in 1991. He is a partner of Logica and strategy director of Logica Management Consulting Netherlands. Since 2003 he pioneered Logica’s innovation policy and R&D project involvement. In 2005 he became project involvement. Tomasz works in the Support for Industrial for Innovation Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, where he is a project and policy offi cer.

He is currently working in the fi eld of innovation in services, including strategic policy development in particular. He is the project offi cer for BCreative and ImMediaTe projects under the Europe INNOVA initiative. He is also involved in developing initiatives in support of new and emerging markets, notably in the creative industries sector and mobile and mobility services. Tomasz has also managed a number of IRC projects and was involved in the preparation of the second phase of Europe INNOVA initiative.

Previously, Tomasz worked for European Commission in DG Enlargement at the technical assistance desk at the Serbia and Montenegro Unit and in the private sector as a project manager for international development projects. His background is in economics and European affairs. He is an avid tennis player and fan and enjoys music and travel.

Tirso Francés is founding partner and strategic director of Dietwee (Dutch for Thosetwo), a design and communications agency in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He started Dietwee with Ron Faas at Art College back in 1988. Over the years Dietwee has grown to thirty people, worked for appealing clients and won many design-awards.

Dietwee aims to contribute to a nicer and more sustainable world in general, and likes to help and work for companies and institutions who somehow aim for the same. Dietwee have worked for many cultural clients, NGO’s, universities, banks, institutions and many clients both non profi t and commercial who fi t that profi le somehow.

When it comes to the creative industry, Dietwee are obviously part of it themselves, but have also worked for several clients and institutions in the music industry, design, architecture, advertising and photography. Amongst others they have designed the identity for Dutch association of designers BNO, Döll Studio for Architecture, Rau Architects and also the identity of their How To Grow partner EDC.

Creativity, innovation and (the power of) communities together with banking are among the professional fi elds of interest of Arthur van de Graaf. Arthur is interested in challenges in which he can build a bridge between demand and supply by changing perspective continuously.

After different positions within then banking industry (e.g. Master of Financial Planning, Manager Preferred Banking, Client Group Manager Small Enterprises (inclusive Start-ups)) Arthur is now Innovation/Business Line Manager Seeds at the Dialogues Incubator. The Dialogues Incubator is ABN AMRO’s accelerator for radical fi nancial innovation. He is responsible for Seeds, the crowd funding

initiative for the funding of companies in the SME-market and enabling of successful creative an innovative entrepreneurship by involving communities.

Together with his own private community Arthur loves Art, Asian culture (food inclusive) and sharing ideas with inspiring people. Geert started with Philips Electronics in Consumer Electronics, now part of the Philips Consumer Lifestyle Sector. Starting out as a product manager for audio systems in 1987, he progressed to being responsible for product strategy and marketing of sound systems in the Asia Pacifi c Region being based in Belgium, Malaysia and Singapore.

On his return to Europe in 1996 he took on a corporate position in the Philips Electronics CTO offi ce as Corporate Technology Offi cer and returned 2 years later to Consumer Electronics, responsible for business development of digital video products, based in Palo Alto, California.

In 2000 Geert decided to leave Philips Electronics to start his own venture in RFID technology, providing identifi cation solutions in the area of ticketing, access control and transactions. After 5 years this company was acquired by a larger company and Geert stayed in leading position for 2 years. FLORISVAN ALKEMADEDIRECTORSOLID VENTURES

Floris van Alkemade has over 15 years of experience in venture capital, M&A, business development. He currently manages Solid Ventures, a venture capital fund that invests in early stage Dutch technology companies, that he founded in 2006.

Before Solid Ventures, he was a general partner at NeSBIC CTe Fund, a EUR 210M value added venture capital funds that invested in 38 early stage technology companies in Europe and US. In 2000 he managed the NeSBIC CTe Fund offi ce in Silicon Valley, US.

Before starting in venture capital Floris worked at Unisource NV, a pan-European telecommunications company, the investment bank MeesPierson NV and the consulting fi rm Andersson Elffers Felix BV. He has a Masters Degree in Business Econometrics from the Free University of Amsterdam. He is a member of the board of several companies and a director of TSOC.

Ayman van Bregt is an entrepreneur in the Dutch Creative Industries and internet and new media strategist. Ayman is one of the fi rst Dutch digital native entrepreneurs with over 10 years of knowledge and 6 years of entrepreneurial experience in design, internet and new media business.

During the fi rst internet bubble Ayman worked as a marketing manager for the internet division of the Finnish Telco Sonera (now TeliaSonera). He left Sonera for Syntens, a Dutch consultancy fi rm helping companies to innovate as a specialist within the area of strategy, innovation, digital marketing and communications.

As an entrepreneur Ayman has led several companies among which U-Lab, Fresh Interactive, The Buccaneers.

In 2007 Ayman wrote the fi rst Dutch Lexicon; Lex-I (lexicon for internet and web 2.0) and sold over 10.000 pieces. Thierry is the CEO of Media Deals. He is also a founder and CEO of Peacefulfi sh and which is a unique media consulting company, based in Berlin, specialized in fi lm fi nancing and digital distribution. He holds an MBA from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy and from UCLA in Los Angeles, where he specialized in fi lm fi nancing and e-commerce.

His experience in fi lm fi nancing includes $100M+ fi lm projects in the USA with Mandalay Entertainment, Strategic Development for the Studio Babelsberg GmbH in Potsdam and Business Development for Studio Canal-Vivendi. Further experience in the media sector includes a major strategic project for

Arte (Franco-German TV station) and is a regular evaluator for the E-Content program (EU) in Luxembourg.

He is in charge of the company development in terms of international network of consultants and new business. His current work includes fi lm fi nancing, business model for new digital distribution channels and the structuring of fi lm funds channels and the structuring of fi lm funds for production companies and public and for production companies and public and private investors.

Gohar Sargsyan is a senior business consultant at Logica in charge of EU innovation programmes and she is doing coordination of EU projects at IIP CREATE. Gohar is an experienced programme manager and business management consultant in international multidisciplinary environments both in public as well as private sectors.

She has a background in ICT. She holds an MBA degree and an MS degree in Computer Information Sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), she also accopmlished her PhD in informatics.

After her banking experience Gohar provided consulting services to World Bank, USAID, PricewaterHouseCoopers, etc. She was entrepreneur of an ICT company between 2000 and 2005. Started from 2002 Gohar is an appointed expert for EU programmes. She carried out consulting, coordination, technical, managerial activities at various EU programmes. The last few years she was a programme director of the EU innovation projects, in some of these projects having coordination role. She likes traveling coordination role.
