1. Introduction
Digital Twin Spark Ignition has two spark plugs
that use to ignite the charge in the combustion
chamber.
2 spark plugs at either ends of the
combustion chamber help in faster and better
combustion.
It only use in the petrol engine.
2.LITERATURE REVIEW
1. Alfa Romeo Twin Spark (TS) technology was
used first time in Alfa Romeo Grand Prix car
in 1914. Alfa Romeo incorporated this
technology into their road cars to enhance
their performance and to comply with stricter
emission controls.
2. Later above model was sold in India in 1995
and this technique was used by Bajaj Auto.
and had their patent
3. Combustion Process In SI
engine
4.Why do we use the DTS-i in
4-stroke Petrol Engine
In 4-stroke petrol engine at ignition time the
air and fuel mixture does not burn
completely. But when DTS-i system use in
engine the rich mixture completely burn and
the ignition time decrease. And power of
engine increases
4.1 DTS-i use
in 4-stroke
petrol
engine . And
each cylinder
having two
spark plugs.
5.DTS-I Engine Element
The construction of DTS-i engine is same as that of the conventional 4-Stroke engine. It consists of following parts:
Piston
Cylinder
Crankshaft
Connecting rod
Fly wheel
Carburettor
2-sparkplug
2-valves
Here the only change made is that the
2 sparkplug placed at the two opposite
end of the combustion chamber At 90
degree to each other.
6.Working of DTS-I system
When the rich mixture of air and fuel
enter in the combustion chamber , the
two spark plugs
fixed at opposite end of engine cylinder
generated spark and this spark burn the
mixture that burned mixture gives power
to the 4-stroke engine. Here spark
generated by the microchip .
There are some advance technology used in DTS-iengine which makes it more powerful than the conventional single sparkplug 4-stroke engine like
1. Trics III technology (Throttle Responsive Ignition control System 3rd generation)
2. CDI technology
6.1 TRICS III
Throttle Responsive Ignition Control System 3rd
generation. It is a means of controlling the Ignition
by operating the Throttle.
Based on a particular amount of Throttle opening,
the Magnetic field generated by the Magnet ,Which
opens or closes the switch .
The switch is connected to the Digital CDI, which
signals the CDI to change the desired Ignition
Advance .
7. Revolution in DTS-I Technology
“DTS-I Triple” spark
technology that Bajaj employs
on the new “Pulsar 200NS”.
The “Pulsar 200NS” an
engine that has the world’s only
first 3 spark plugs for its single
cylinder.
The 3 spark plugs make for
efficient burning of the “air + fuel
” mixture which benefits and
enhances.
Fig
8. Advantages of DTS-i
system
•Less vibrations and noise
•Ignition time decreases.
•Long life of the engine parts
•Decrease in the specific fuel consumption
• Better starting of engine even in winter season &
cold climatic conditions s
9.Disadvantages of DTS-i
system
The engine tends to overheat and loose power at higher speeds as compared to a single plug engine.
There is high NOx emission
If one spark plug get damaged then we have to replace both .
The cost is relatively more
10. Bike in which we use the
DTS-i engine?
In India Bajaj has patented for dts-i
technology . At present Such as PULSAR
135,150,180,200,200NS, 220, PLATINA,
XCD125,135, DISCOVER150 , ETC. are
using the dts-i (digital twin spark ignition
system). which means the petrol enters
into the cylinder burns more efficiently.
11. Conclusion
Perfect Combustion in Internal
Combustion engine is not possible due
to the various losses. So for the
instantaneous burning of fuels in I.C.
engine, Digital Spark Ignition system
can be used which produces twin sparks
at regular intervals that can help to
complete the combustion.
