Unit 21 EvaluationLiberty Watts

Unit 21 For our final unit we each individually had to create our

own project on whatever we wanted using our knowledge from previous work. It had to be presented in a media form e.g. video, audio, print, website, computer game, etc.

The first task was to create an Inspiration board on what projects we could do in our chosen media sector.

Task 2 was to do some research on the chosen media sector e.g. for photography you could carry out research on photographers and their work.

Unit 21 The next task was to present a proposal, mentioning our idea

and working title for your project, as well as other features like audience, genre, length, etc.

Then we had to create a pre-production document, including all the key information that is relevant for our media sector. For example, for a video, you have to include a production schedule, storyboard, budget, people/objects that are used, risk assessment, and more.

Finally, we get to begin production on our final project, gathering all our resources and going to any locations to shoot videos or photos and completing editing.

Initial IdeasI decided to base my project on photography because I enjoy it and I did well in Unit 9. I narrowed it down to 4 different topics: fashion, wildlife, macro and landscape. I created a basic Inspiration board, roughly outlining the different things I could photograph for each topic. In the end I chose to focus on macro, wildlife and landscape because they all compliment each other.

Production ProcessResearch

Next I had to carry out some photography research, so I wrote about photography in general, including its uses and how a camera works. I also researched the topics of photography I was focusing on (landscape, wildlife & macro), describing their concepts and skill required, and included examples of photographers’ work in each area.

Production ProcessProposalThe next task was to

write up a proposal explaining my idea and features like the length, genre and style. For a higher mark I then developed my written proposal into a PowerPoint presentation format so it was more aesthetically pleasing.

Production ProcessPre-Production I created a document with all

my pre-production information, like the locations for shooting (school, forest, etc.), my inspiration for the product (photograpers), my budget (prices of equipment like camera), production schedule, and exhibition.

Production ProcessTaking the photos After I had finished my pre-

production tasks, I spent the next week going out and taking my photos. First, I went and took some photos on the school site like flowers and the sky. Then later on I took the camera home and took some pictures in my garden, and also went out to the forest and the beach and took photos there. These are some of my unedited photos.

Production ProcessEditing the photos Finally I had to edit my photos and arrange them together

for my exhibition. I have mainly stuck to my initial idea but made some changes to the amount of photos I used and the way I exhibit them.

I have exhibited my photos in a collage- type format, arranging them by colour, grouping all the blue photos together, all the pink photos together, etc., which links to the project’s name. Also, I have added white borders around each photo to make them look like printed-out photographs, and I haven’t placed them neatly, to make it look like a scrapbook. This makes my project seem more personal and relatable to people who view it.

Finished Product

Feedback I asked some classmates to look at my finished product

and give their opinions on it. I got mostly positive feedback; both people asked liked the look of the product. But if I were to do this project again I would try to stick to the natural theme more.
