THE RIOT CLUBThe Riot Club is a British thriller film which was released in 2014.It was directed by Lone Scherfig and written by Laura Wade. The film is actually based on Laura Wade’s 2010 play Posh.

The three main stars of the film are Max Irons, Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth. All of these actors are relatively unknown British stars but it was after this film that all of them went on to star in other movies and achieve a higher status of recognition.

NARRATIVEThe film follows two first year students (Max Irons and Sam Claflin) at Oxford University as they join the infamous Riot Club. Over the course of one evening they embark on outrageous activities and force their pristine reputations to be brought into question.

INSTITUTIONThe film was produced by Blueprint Pictures which is a British Production Company created by Graham Broadbent. Including The Riot Club, Blueprint Pictures has produced several other successful films including: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, In Bruges, Becoming Jane and Seven Psychopaths.

PRODUCTIONOn 5 February 2013 it was reported that HanWay had boarded Blueprint Pictures to produce the adaptation of the play Posh written by Laura Wade.

On 20th May 2013, Universal Pictures International acquired the films for UK and Irish rights.

The shooting of the film begun on the 30th of June 2013 in Oxford, England.

MARKETINGThe first trailer was released on May 16th 2014 in the run up to the film’s release date on September 19th 2014.https://youtu.be/ThY3e_3PH9Y The film’s UK release date was September 19th 2014 and March 27th 2015 in the USA.

As well as several character posters, the film also has its own website and has a page featured on the Official Universal Pictures website.

PREMIERE AND AND SUCCESSThe Riot Club’s premiere took place at the BFI Southbank in London on September 15th 2014.

The Riot Club achieved a Box Office total of $2,147,734 worldwide.

The DVD was released on August 18th 2015 and DVD sales reached $29,736.
