Nigel Borrell, The Auckland War Memorial Museum Auckland War Memorial Museum is currently engaged in the challenge of how to better reach audiences and communities in ways that are meaningful and that create value. The Museum strives to be responsive, flexible and share experiences (both successful or otherwise) that helps us to refine what we do. But how do we improve on this in order to better reach groups and meet their interests more directly? During this presentation you’ll gain insight into some of the current practices and approaches that the Auckland War Memorial Museum is involved in with source communities, stakeholder groups and community in general. You’ll also have the opportunity to evaluate how your organisation might be addressing this. Nigel will share a range of current projects including; • Outreach: Te Ahu visitor centre and Ngāi Tūhoe Deed of Settlement • Future Pacific Access Project • Hotunui meeting house Preservation project • Te Awe – a window into our taonga Māori collection • Contemporary artist collection projects: Neil Pardington and Michael Parekowhai. • Working towards a co-development and co-production framework This session is aimed at Curators and arts and cultural organisations involved in similar challenges.
