Camden Image Gallery

• The gallery was developed by owner and managing director Elena Chimonas & opened 7th December 2013 after taking over the premises in January 2013

• The gallery is still an up and coming company in Camden

• It has been home to 3 performance evenings and 11. Exhibitions in the past 8 months

• The gallery is run by the owner, with help from volunteers, that help to inviligate the exhibitions as well as curate.

• Camden Image Gallery seeks out artists around England to exhibit all different forms of media.

• The Gallery gives opportunities to new artists as well as more estabiIshed ones exhibit their work in a well known part of London

• All artists have the option to sell their work, and many have done so successfully whilst having their work in the gallery.

Volunteer Work• At my time at Camden Image Gallery, I worked as a volunteer, and was

involved in two different exhibitions. During my time I was given the opportunity to help invigilate and promote the gallery, by handing out flyers for the exhibitions as well as explaining different elements of artists work to people who came to view the exhibitions. As well as this I was involved in taking down an exhibition and helping the managing director curate and install an exhibition. Whilst doing this I was able to meet the artists and learn more about their art background as well as learn about different mediums of art and how pieces had been developed.

• A great part of my role at the gallery was to research different artists for a project coming up in September. This involved me contacting artist that may be interested in having their work exhibited at the gallery

Photography skills that helped work at the gallery:• Indesign knowledge• Photoshop knowledge • Knowledge on how to frame photographs and

art work

• Meeting different range of artists

• Learning the different factors that go into installing an exhibition

• Researching artists for new exhibitions and contacting them

• Days of only invigilating

• Getting negative responses from artists I contacted.

• Not starting the placement till late in the year.
