Kilve presentationHugh Moore

Key findings at kilve

During our trip to kilve this November we got opportunities to explore the landscape, Beaches, and woods especially collecting pictures and objects from the area.

I came back with a large amount of photographs, Sketches, a model and a large scale watercolour painting to give me ideas for my brief, like how I am going to illustrate my pictures. We also got the opportunity to do a piece of work outside using only bare materials we could find in the area inspired by artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, That with the model I made inside gave me inspiration from a more 3D, close to nature point of view.

Reasons for my outcome

As I like to work in a range of different ways all my ideas do not consist of doing only one type of artistic piece, but a range of different ones. For example it would be better for me to research a variety of different artists who work in different ways, like 3D design, fine art, photography, drypoint etc. I have mainly looked at Andy Goldsworthy, Lee miller and Turner and a lot of other artists.

Idea1: Leaflet My first idea was to make a leaflet for the Kilve court

centre advertising Kilve as a place where people would want to go. I, being inspired by the work of Lee miller wanted to use my photographs within the booklet using Photoshop to make a harsher finish for the photos as her photographs tended to have quite harsh dark tones.I also plan to illustrate the buildings and landscape of Kilve, as I want to create a map that shows

the buildings that stood out for me as well as the landscape from a birds eye point of view. I came up with the idea of having a map so the visitors looking at the leaflet will also be able to explore Kilve itself as well as being able to look at what it has to offer. I also want to look at Logo design, as this leaflet is supposed to be by Kilve court, for visitors aged around 11-14. Also Whilst on the Beach at Kilve I came up with the idea of doing watercolour paintings of the landscape as I saw a lot of tones in the rocks, fossils, and in the flowing water which created a lot of colour, and pushed the rocks creating interesting rock formations.

Idea2: Display My second idea is to create a display of paintings, photographs, prints, and

perhaps a 3D model based on Kilve and my Key findings. I’ve looked at the work of joseph Turner and Claude Monet you used colourful and light tones to represent rural landscapes, Being mostly inspired by Turner I want to create a variety of watercolour paintings to show the colours and tones of the rocks, and flowing water on the beach at Kilve. Also as part of this display I could move onto making dry points like Rembrandt who created amazing landscapes out of engraving pieces of acetate, and printing the image onto cartridge paper using black ink. I would also create a 3D piece inspired by any drawings, and pictures I took in Kilve which could support my Dry point engravings as I could take the shape from my 3D piece and make inspired engravings, these would be mainly inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

Idea 3: Working in 3D

My final Idea is to design, and create a sculpture inspired by the landscape we looked at kilve, using pebbles, rocks, twigs and other stuff you would find outside much like a piece by Andy Goldsworthy, or Richard Long. Or I could use more manufactured materials such as cardboard, plaster, wire like another sculpture who was inspired by a natural, rural environment David Nash, who would also use natural objects like logs etc. But carve them to make them seem in someway manmade as well as natural.

Conclusion

I want to work on my second idea of creating a variety f different styles of pieces, fine art, 3D, Dry point etc. With inspiration from those artists I looked and liked. I feel this choice would give me more area to explore whilst making and will have a better outcome because there is a larger variety of work then my third idea. Also with the first idea I would have to use Photoshop and other computer programs et I am much more skilled doing pieces by hand then on a computer.
