This shot creates an unnatural effect, as it is something your eyes will not normally see. This makes the background seem to grow and become dominant. This effect is quite emotional and is often used to convey sudden realisation and reaction to a dramatic event. In this context, the death of Sarah's daughter. This shot also emphasizes Sarah’s fear of the darkness in the corridor.

SteadicamA steadicam is used here to follow the subject in fast motion without shakiness. A steadicam involves the use of a camera mount and stabilizer to prevent the camera from shaking by isolating the cameraman's movement, which prevents it from effecting the shot taken. It also allows fast motion or fast movement shots to be taken swiftly. In this context, the steadicam is used to focus on Sarah as she runs through the hospital corridor without the camera being unsteady. This is done so that the audience is able to see the distress Sarah is in and the state of emotion is shown from her face.
