Use this presentation template to summarise your Place in Question assignment 2015 The template also introduces most of the units you’ll cover this year through selected criteria. Up-load the finished PowerPoint to your block via SlideShare. Each page asks you to reflect upon and evaluate your work since the beginning of term, for each stage in the project. Write careful explanations for each outcome (text between 14 & 20 points), and show how you have covered the parts of the units listed on the page. Include photos of each outcome to help this process. Do not describe what you’ve done. Explain it, justify it and make links between research, experiment and final outcomes.

Location studies

Unit 12 (Fine Art) a. recording of experiences or information to develop intentions What approaches did you use to examine and record your location? Representing the space; details; light etc. How did you decide and which worked the best? Why?

b use of materials, processes and technology or a combination of materials, processes and technology to develop ideas What did you learn through your initial enquiries? Experiments and techniques, use of an experimental process to generate new ideas, suitability of some rather than others?

a)

I used many different approaches to try and record different aspects of light, space and texture. One of the best examples is in my initial sketches where I used a fine liner to record different textures and use of light in small scenes. These were good as they were quick yet effective ways of recording the mood of the image as well as vital details.

b)I learnt that using different media to represent the same space can make you see your subject in a very different way. I learnt this as I was examining my charcoal piece as I found it captured a more complex form and understanding of light compared to my pencil sketches.

Making and developmental work - (Large drawing, 3D, print)Unit 12 (Fine Art) a. recording of experiences or information to develop intentions What approaches did you use to examine and record your location? a)I used 3D to help record the general shape and form of my area by creating a card model. By using simplified objects to represent the different areas of my zone it allowed me to gain greater understanding of the space in the place in question.

b)I learnt that different tools for the same media can result in very different results. I discovered this as I was experimenting with using ink for my large illustration. I found that using a smaller bamboo stick you drastically effect the qualities of a line compared to that of a paint brush or cut wood.

Using historical and contemporary researchUnit 9Contextual References

a research into historical and contemporary work, showing understanding of the contexts which influenced the work .

What have you learned about the influences on other’s work?

B recording and presenting information explaining the use of visual language in others’ work. Where have you analysed examples? What did you learn?

c use of contextual references in own work How have you used references? What impact did they have on your ideas?

• A)I have learn that many great styles of illustration feed of each other as in the case of the Japanese prints and Chinese paintings as they are influenced by each other, both containing a obscure understanding of distance and scale.

B) I have analysed examples of different styles of drawing and explained how each on is unique. From this I learnt that different styles of drawing are useful for conveying different messages and explaining different scenes

• C)An artist that inspired and directly related to my work was that of Lorenzo Ghiberti and his work on the gates of paradise. My final outcome was an plaster imitation of his carving style with certain qualities that I implemented myself.

Unit 13 (Design)

a) Resolve the needs of the brief to develop intentionsHow did you develop the final brief? What client / end user is it for? Why?

What constraints and requirements did you consider?

What research did you undertake into your chosen area of creative enquiry?

b) Develop a range of ideas in response to the brief. How did you develop your ideas for the final outcome? What techniques did you use to generate ideas? What influenced you in doing this?

Developing your personal brief

a)I filled out a page that would help me develop a brief and give me a understanding of what I would like to produce. After I decided to create a piece inspired by Lorenzo Ghiberti I had to consider what materials to use as I did not have access to the tools and materials need to create my piece from bronze. I decided I needed something softer as i did not have any electronic or power tools to use on anything tougher. That is why I picked to use plaster as I could scratch, stain an carve with the simple tools at my disposal.

b) I developed ideas for how i would transfer the patterns and textures from my pervious work into 3D by experimenting with drawing different shapes and aspects of my area and using a watercolour felt to distinguish between the high and low areas of the carve.

Unit 11 Develop & Produce Own Ideas

a) Create and develop ideas in response to the brief. How did you interpret your brief? What different approaches to the same theme did you explore? What decisions did you make to refine your ideas?

b) Plan and produce finaloutcome using specialist working methods and processes. How did you decide on the final outcome? Why was this the best approach? How did you choos the techniques you’ve used? Did they work effectively?

Developing your personal brief

a)I approached my idea directly developing it in its different stages of production. This allowed me to run through different potential adjustments and consideration for the next step as I create the piece.

b)I decided to create my final piece the way I did because I was confident in my ability to replicate the ideas presented in my plan. I had also seen and used many of the technical processes required to produce such a piece.

Applying Professional; practice in your work

Unit 10Professional Practicea investigate and analyse professional practice Where have you looked at the working methods and approaches of others in this project?

b apply and develop professional practice in own work How did you adopt an approach from researching the above? c investigate and apply health and safety and legal requirements. What health & safety risks have you avoided? How?

d appropriate standards of professional working approach How did you refine and present your work to a professional standard?

• a)I looked at and artist that inspired me when painting my self portrait and explored what different ways he approached his career. I also researched what path this took him and how his debates and opinions helped him become the president of the society of portrait painters.

• c)During the project I have used many dangerous appliances such as the bandsaw fro creating the mould for the plaster brick, the printing press for creating my print and the scalpel and guillotine fro constructing my card model. I also made a animation in after effects to instruct people of some band saw safety features.

• d) I have use some different techniques of displaying my pieces. One such example is in my video where I use music an different camera shots, angles and use of shadow to present my Google sketch up model of my place in question.

Unit 8Personal, Portfolio Development & Progression

a personal presentation and communication skills

b portfolio presentation techniques How have you presented your work?

Did you make particular use of photography or presentation boards?

How have you considered clarity of information in your sketchbooks and boards?

c identifying and pursuing progression goals What evidence do you have of research into progression? Photos of open days, website research? What have you learned so far?

• B) I presented my work and the steps I took to produce my work by showing many pictures of the pieces in production complete with annotation and visual aids. I also presented my complete pieces on separate pages with images of different areas of the piece taking into consideration background and lighting.

• C)

Evaluation

I have mixed feelings about this project, as when I began I did not feel overly attached to my subject matter that I was appointed. Although this later got better as I found different ways I could portray my place in question and depict areas using different media and techniques. I enjoyed working on these pieces and found presenting the processes I when about to creating to be quite enjoyable as well. Although I did not enjoy the researching portions of the project I found that the styles and artists that I did found I took great inspiration from. I f I where to do this project again I would probably research a few more artists as I researched quite a few styles of illustration and drawing but did not fully explore many sculptors or personally known design practitioners. Furthermore although I felt quite satisfied with the final result of my brief I could have considered a few more ways of presenting this in form of initial ideas or variants.
